I've read that the Guard used to have bikes; I know they can use Chimeras as APC's and Trojans as transport/recovery tanks.
But what about common or garden trucks? Some Black Library novels mention logistics transport in passing, half-tracks etc, and FW at least provides the Arvus lighter.
Model- wise what do people use? I'm currently running 1/32 half tracks, suitably Guardified with stowage, voxes and the like, along with similar scale toy HMMW's as scouts. I've seen pics of some Bandai Gundam hovertrucks that may suit, too.
So, question for you all: anyone built, eg, a transporter for a LeManRuss? Bridge/boat carriers? Softskin troop carriers?
Over to you...

Man, we used to have bikes, landspeeders, the predator was originally an IG tank, robots, all kinds of stuff.
For the second half, no, afraid not.

Dave Taylor did a cracking conversion of a troop transport using Ork Trukk and IG Chimera bitz, along with a good deal of plasticard. Pics and a cool tutorial can be found on his blog.

That is nice. Haven't seen or talked to Dave since the last games Day. And I know his friend Thomas that did the laser cutting, gonna have to see if he still has the template for them. I'm guessing he fields it as a Chimera.

Supposedly the Spearhead expansion this June will provide the IG with more tanks. One is undoubtedly the re-cut Leman Russ, probably with the rest of the weapons options (not that any of them are worth a crap, but there you go). The other may be that Hydra/Manticore kit that was rumored way back when the IG codex first broke. I know that kit would just explode off the shelves.

I though about buying afew 1:35 Stryker as a muti-adaptible weapons platforms
as it fits in with the feel of my IG units. It be cool if the GW staff made some thing that was as cool as that

They certainly look way better than chimeras. Are even more expensive, though. And no doubt any semi-official tournament would bar them as non-GW models.

Trumpeter has a great 1:35 Stryker model. You can get it for around $40 at a Hobbytown USA or similar store.

You can get decent quad missile turrets that will serve as a manticore turret from Old Crow Models for around 5 pounds (UK). Or you can spend much more than that for a FW model and hope that it is not miscast (against hope). I've not had any issues with OC stuff at ALL.
The actual mount comes with a 30mm disc which is designed to fit the turret mounts in some of their vehicles, but the resin can be drilled and mounted on a GW chimera hull without much trouble.

I wish the tanks and APCs looked a bit more realistic. That's why I love Marines. Predators and Rhinos look like they could be a tank in production right now.

Yeah, the Leman Russ tanks are way too shrimpy. There are alternatives out there, but they are crazy expensive (50GBP). The chimeras aren't bad, but they are really fat.

You must have had bad luck - I've had roughly 30 orders from FW and only had one bad miscast (macharius hull, and that was a proper miscast, looked melted) - and that was resolved within 48hr. Placed a call, free special delivery shipping. done. Simialr whenthey put 2 sets of right arms with the Revenant titan, got those parts the next morning.
If you're civil on the phone the guys there seem to move heaven and earth. And considering forgeworld started out casting in an old bath (serious here!) they dont do too badly!

Same here, never had an issue after about $800 worth of Death Korps. One platoon commander had no leg, and after I called, they sent me out a whole new squad free of charge the very next day. Then I gave the miscast model a peg-leg.

If strykers are too expensive, try BTR's instead. Most of the kits here retail at about £13-15, way cheaper than GW. Old Crow Models also do a few wheeled APCs, with a variety of turrets.
Back to my OP though, it's logistics trucks I'm after, a column of FW Trojans is too expensive by far for a supply convoy!

My bad luck was in ordering the full resin valkyrie.
Every part was warped or miscast. Several pieces were almost rubbery in texture. My fingernail could dent it.
I phoned up to voice my disappointment and to cancel the order and request a refund.
They shipped a replacement to me 3 days later. The wings were warped in three dimensions, the tail booms were bananas. The hull/fuselage pieces were concave. Nothing fit together properly. For what they were charging, I expected better. I do now have a Valkyrie - the plastic kit. The miscast (2nd) one took several months to fix and once primered, was traded for the plastic kit (at a loss.)
I wrote it off as a learning experience and will not buy from them again. Not when there are other resin casting companies that offer suitable replacements for less, with fewer issues.

You see, when you get the unfortunate kits from a bad batch that is always a downer. This often happens with had made stuff, fortunately I've not had any bad resin from FW and I've had tonnes of the stuff. Anyway back on subject, I use these http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/images-13984-4848_Martini%20Henrie%27s%20Airportable%20Cavalry%20Ig%20Wip%20%28lots%20Of%20Pics%29.html as the hulls for my Airmobile guard force. I got the hulls from here http://the-baggagetrain.com/shop/catalog/browse?sessid=GjalMKTwU1GMV3g0Va1ODLzGXOBOm7RMEi05e3et1vJ8Yt9RY1Edgb1d5woz0zVv&shop_param= you'll have to ask for the SKD hull if you want any.
I prefer the idea of some wheeled vehicles in the Guard armoury, but there haven't been a huge number of good ones about on the forums. The best trucks I've seen are the afore mention Dave Taylor ones.

Thanks for replies. I found variants of BTR 152 on e-bay all retailing at about £8.00, SKIF Models 1/35 scale, from Ukraine. 2 have arrived so far, and apart from a very detailed (read pain in the ass to build) 6x6 transmission, are an armoured truck with 3 crew seats and benches for 10 troops. Excellent kits with plenty of options/spares, and just perfect for Guard.
