Currently up to page 300 in this book and really enjoying it. The writing is that good that you feel for the Sons as you know what's coming, had the same feeling with the first book. It also scares me that Prospero Burns maybe a let down, the reason why?

Live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about his religion. Respect others in their views and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life. Beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and of service to your people. When your time comes to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home.

I thought it was a great book. It ends rather quickly, but it was still good. As always, the Rembrancers can get a little old, but there is a cool use of them in this book.
Some spoilers...

I can still remember when a box of 30 Space Marines was $30.00. Now THAT'S old school! In fact, I started playing in the Rogue Trader days...yes, I am that old. Played Warhammer Fantasy for years before Rogue Trader even came out...

I really enjoyed it, but it did end rather hurredly. I wanted to know more about Magnus's ascension to daemonhood, and his deal with Tzeentch when he escaped Prospero.
Once again though this book really drove home that the Emp. was a toolbox who should have seen it coming.

Really liked it, certainly one of the better ones. It does a really good job of painting BOTH chapters as neccessary but different. Neither are 'good guys'. I also liked the complexity of the Thousand Sons' world, it makes you really want to learn what all these archaic terms mean. A nice touch is that the Thousand Sons refer to 'ancient Earth' (our history) with a lot more accuracy than any of the other chapters.
The only downside was the rememberancers. I think the whole rememberancer idea is what makes the series good to start with - it gives a human side to a Astartes war, but the rememberancers in this can feel a bit peripheral. But what can you do, McNeill DOES like writing about Marines....:/

But the book is about the Horus Heresy, not after it. Magnus was NOT a daemon prince until AFTER the Heresy. The only Primarch known to have already ascended to daemonhood and seen during the Heresy as such was Mortarion. Which makes me laugh since he was the most opposed to warpcraft. XD

Actually, it was revealed at the end of the Fulgrim HH book that Fulgrim had been possessed by a demon, so he kind of counts.

My mistake, I thought he ascended during the legion's flight to the planet of sorcerer's. I still say it ended too quickly, but perhaps "Prospero Burns" will make up for it.
I do find it interesting how they are playing in gray areas with the different legions loyalty.
-TSons were loyal, but misguided, and ultimately too arrogant to admit they weren't strong enough to fight the warp gods.
-Alpha Legion were completely loyal, but decided to play at being double agents.
-Dark Angels are turning out to be a hotter tranny mess than anybody first thought.
We still have definite "bad guys" like the Word Bearers and World Eaters, and solid loyalists like the IFists and Smurfs. But even the Space Wolves in this book were shown to be ignorant dickheads.
I wonder if they have a master plan in mind for how much they are going to reveal during the course of the series, because right now it seems like they are on track to leave no stone untutrned, and no mystery unrevealed when it comes to the fluff we've had for the past 20+ years. Does anybody know if they are simply playing by ear and letting the authors do what they want? Or is it similar to the recent Star Wars New Jedi Order books, mulitiple authors following a strict story board over the course of 20+ books?
