Hey guys

Right now I have a full Tyranids list and a pretty healthy start on some Orks. I'm actually thinking about doing some Imperial Fists because I've found a yellow recipe I'm pretty happy with. Question: as players, how do you feel about going up against Marines? Is it boring, or do you still enjoy it?

Just stay the hell away from the Ultramarines, and everything will be alright. I love playing with and against marines because i love how they look.

I don't find them boring at all. Just because there are so many different lists that they can run effectively.

I almost prefer going up against vanilla marines, just because I know that other (outdated) armies have some really scary stuff that's outside of the norm. Fighting marines is like fighting the baseline of 40k - just about everything has the same statline (4s across, 3+ or 2+ save, Ld 8-10, and 1 or 2 attacks) so the only thing that really changes is the wargear and unit setup.

I always enjoy it playing Marines or vs. Marines.
Don't think or feel bad about them.

I personally don't find playing them boring but I do find them easy to beat and often boring for the player who's army it is. I know a lot of people who start them then stop a few months later. I strongly recomend giving them a heme of style rather than the middle of the road army. Any of the ideas said by locclo are good just try and base it around an idea. Whether it's fluff and you play the game for the story or whether you focus on a particular style it doesn't really matter.

Being an IG player from the days of 2nd editon I have faced loads of SM armies and lost to most of them.
I think it comes down to the commander really, a good commander is always worth playing. A bad one blames the dice.
Borring? Not really.
Perdictable in their style of play? Yes.

I don't like to really play them when I run my Ultramarines force. Marines vs. Marines aren't so fun for me. But when I use another force it is fun to play other marines.

I don't like playing Marine vs. Marine games very much. When it's Marine vs. Chaos Marine, it's a little more fun for the narrative aspect though. What I really enjoy is a good 2v2 where I'm fighting both Chaos Marines and squishier enemies though.

Boring? Never! my freinds SM and my Ork Deff Riders clash epicly almost every week! Its almost always a back-and-forth battle to the death with lots of explosions. Orks vs SM Is pure fun

Playing against marines is not boring for me. My Eldar kill marines real good most of the time. There enough varaitions in marines armies that it is not so boring.

I find them boring when they are stand and shoot varieties.. though I find all gunlines super boring to play against.

There isn't any army in the game that is boring to play against that is actively part of all the phases of the game..

Minus 'Nids actually.. TMCs are just dumb, too many wounds and they are just annoying.

Playing as SM has become incredibly boring to me. As to versing them, they're not really spammed around here so it doesn't really matter. I've actually versed marines maybe once or twice.

As for SW they're pretty annoying to verse with their SC spamming. As someone who would generally never use SC it meant my HQ would usually have no chance against them. Plus that SC with the powers like making ice and stuff that's obviously a psy power, not technically being called a psy power so the SoB don't get their special negating sae against it >_>

I enjoying lining up against marines. They're the spine of the game, so everything just feels so much more 40k when they're on the board.

To me, it is really enjoyable playing against normal MEQs, particularily as Brother SRM pointed out when there are squishier enemies alongside them. One of my favorite all time battles was Chaos and a renegade IG list against Ultramarines and Loyalist Guard.

I find playing vs. Orks a complete bore.

The occasional meq vs. meq is a refreshing change.

orks have very little variety, Meq have lots.

Personal preference, but I just cringe at everything about orks... about as appropriate in the 40k setting as a priest telling "knock-knock" jokes at a funeral.

SM aren't too bad if you play various lists and players. I've been stuck playing the same Salamanders player constantly who has not changed his list in months. He takes the same units and wargear every time and it makes for an extremely repetitive, long, and boring game.

Also littlenibbler Orks aren't about armour saves.
Orks are about having too many models on the table, and wasting the other guy's time with your movement phase.
Orks are about having the toughest units on the table.
Orks are about not caring about how many bodies are left in a long winding trail until the squad is down to less than a third its starting strength.
Orks are about rolling more dice then you can count without the aid of a calculator or a pen and paper.
Orks are about having totally fething insane characters tearing gak down like Doc Grotsnik, Ghazghkull or Snikrot.
Orks are about being too fething awesome to die...

I think the latest Space Marine codex is really well designed, and has lots of versatility, durability and variety.

There are a lot of Space Marines players out there, but if I'm going to be stuck playing about half my games against a certain codex, I'd rather it be the Marine codex than any other one out there.

When people play the same list or same style of list repetitively it becomes a bore. But with the variety that Marines allow for, and with quite a big player base at my local club. It allows the real diversity to show through. Thus stopping them becoming boring etc =]

I've never once played a game with, or against Marines that I've enjoyed. In my personal opinion They are both extremely basic and boring to play, and a serious pain in the arse to play against.

This.

I enjoy going up against the many different lists they put out. Recently played a biker spam 1500pt list for the first time, and had tons of fun watching my berzerkers hammer the T5 loyalists in cc.
