Here's my Imperial Guard Kill Team, tell me what you think. What special rules should I give?
Marbo
Veterans
-3x Plasmaguns (2 have FNP)
-Lascannon (Relentless) (I'm also thinking about giving it Eternal Warrior instead)
200 on the dot.

There's only one problem. You can't use a special rule more than once, so that invalidates the second FNP pasma gunner.
How about trading one for a melta gunner with Tank Hunter?

Augh, you're right. Um....Tank Hunter won't work, you can't have vehicles in Kill Teams. Otherwise I would have a Vendetta and a squad of vanilla vets.
Ugh, this is annoying. Anyone got ideas?
Eternal Warrior or Relentless for the Lascannon?
How about the list as a whole? How does it look?

I guess I forgot how Tank Hunter works. I gotta take another look at my rulebook, because I was planning on doing something similar...
Maybe give something to Marbo? He's a good candidate for Eternal Warrior.

I guess the only other thing I could say is, why the lascannon? In my killteam, I'm taking an autocannon, on account of the fact that I can't think of much in Killteam that I'd need a lascannon to take out, and with an autocannon, I get two chances to.

I guess because it fills out the points nicely, also, I don't have to worry about termies so much. Also, I play a Tau relatively consistently, and he just fields 3 suits. I like to snipe them the 1st turn while he curses at my lascannons.
What's your list like?

My list was: -Sgt Bastonne -Grenadiers -Autocannon (Eternal Warrior or Relentless. Going to experiment.) -Meltagun (Tank Hunter) -Plasma Gunner (Feel No Pain) -Grenade Launcher I examined every line of the Killteam mission. No where does it say you can't take vehicles. There are some vehicles you cant take because of cost reasons, but as long as they fall in the FOC slots you can have, you're allowed to take them. So I'll keep my Tank Hunters, thank you very much. :p

I think giving people USRs won't have as much of an effect as simply choosing units well. Marbo + 30 penal legion would be terrific, but it's 205. Damn.
How about Harker Veterans w/forward sentries, 2 plasma and a second relentless HB? 195 points (add a flamer or GL maybe, make one PG FNP and one tank hunter) Actually if you can get cover saves thats quite tough, and a lot of fire.
The best kill team is probably just some obscene number of guys, or a squad of terminators, but hey, there's good and there's cool. Automatically Appended Next Post: 3 armoured sentinels? One plasma cannon, one lascannon + HK missile, one autocannon?

I was just reading the kill team mission and it doesn't state anything about not taking vehicles. In 4th edition Kill team it had all kinds of special rules like no 2+ saves and no vehicles. Not anymore!
Course 4 GKTs is about 199 points. Talk about a small team. IG can have an entire platoon! I'm still thinking SoB might be the best with cheap 3+ saves and tons of them.

I could get a Platoon Command Squad with a bunch of special weapons, unless restrictions still applied and I couldn't take them w/out 2 squads of inf.

That'd be hit or miss. Someone could be a Rules Lawyer and say you couldn't do it. The whole platoon is one FOC choice, and must be taken as such. I do know, however, that there are other people that might. I'd probably let you get away with it, because its not a huge squad, and they'd still be pretty easy to kill. Plus, the rules with SGT. Bastone giving orders to his own unit is also one of those things you could argue about, so it'd be hypocritical of me.
A safer bet would be a regular Valkyrie. I don;t see why you'd need all the Lascannons from a Vendetta.

And this is where the mission falls flat on its face. The first thing that came to mind when I read the mission was a feeling of , followed by . 200 points with no effective limits? Everybody operates individually? Like in Mordheim? This is going to be fun ( sarcasm ). OK, let us see where this can lead. My opponent brought an infantry platoon ( 35 men ), with 1 melta, 2 GL and 1 flamer. Good for him! I brought and Ironclad Dreadnought with a Drop Pod. Once I kill his single meltagun, he can surrender immediately. Total effective play time approximately one minute ( not counting his setup ).
Sorry for the minor rant. But the cold fact is that WH40K at 200 points just becomes an elaborate game of rock/paper/scissors if some restriction are not placed on available units.

As rock/paper/scissors as you make it out to be, players just simply have to decide for themselves if they will be making an all comers list, themed list, or a trick pony list...
|
This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

Might I suggest:
Veteran Squad
Harker, Heavy Bolter (Relentless), Plasma Gun (FNP), Meltagun, Sniper Rifle or Flamer, Demolitions
(Add another USR as you want, like Furious Charge or some such)
[195]
The whole squad has Stealth, Move Through Cover, and Infiltrate. Just the list I am tinkering with, at least.

The problem is that harker states that 'him and his squad have..' and in kill team, harker is all by himself. Everyone is. So I don't think the other 9 veterans benefit :[

Well, it comes down to interpretation on that one. When you buy Harker, he gives the squad those rules. That happens before deployment and is not like rules conferred via an Independent Character or something that requires the presence of said model.
Not sure how GW will officially rule on this one, because it really kills some of the flavor and viability of some characters. Harker fits a Kill Team fluff perfectly and to handicap an upgrade that costs as much as he does by not conferring those special rules to the squad would just be silly.

Yes, I know. It wasn't something I thought about at first, because harker was my go-to as soon as I heard about a new killteam coming out. He's just cool, and I've always wanted to use him. When my friend crapped on my parade, I read it over, and unfortunately agreed. I think its stupid, but its one of those 'oh well.. but thems the rules' kinda things.. :[

Killteam is alot like Apocolypse. You can try and follow RAW, but in the end it's going to put a dampener on the fun. Talk to your opponent about these things before the game starts, and be willing to make concessions to him as well. Remember, TMIR.

It says they operate as units, which is unclear. A definite RAI and RAW issue, for sure.

yeah, there's really too many ways to 'game' kill teams for it to be anything beyond a starting point for funny time-wasting fights. For example; what happens when someone brings 5 TH/SS terminators? Deep strike spread out with relative impunity due to almost no models in play on top of the 5.5% chance of dying to dangerous terrain, then just waddle forward 5 or 6" apart until everyone's dead. Also, how do kill team rules interact with things like a commissar, or the ork mob rule? RAW says neither function, and cripple an entire style of kill team (both of which are interesting and fluffy ones). Also makes "hidden" PFs useless; who's going to spend 1/5th of their points on a PF sarge when he can be sniped out all by his lonesome?
P.S. I rather like a Vendetta driven by Marbo; a hilarious 195 pts. Give Marbo FNP and there's very little you have to worry about; snipe anything that can hurt the Vendetta with the lascannons, then wait for them to mass charge the Vendetta and demo charge them all bunched up. That or 3 Missile Launcher Armoured Sentinels (with 1 HK missile or something); just instant death anyone that can hurt AV12 in CC, then kick everybody else to death. I'm afraid both armies will probably get crushed by 5 TH/SS termies though :(

Can't Deep Strike the Terminator Squad. However, the best way to handle them is shoot them to pieces at range and steer clear of them. Not the best Kill Team, actually, since they have no ranged weapons.

thing is, there are entire armies that can't shoot 5 termies off the table let alone 200 pt kill teams with no heavy support. It requires 90 lasgun hits, 60 bolter hits or 18 las/ plas hits, no 200 pt team can put anything near that out before they start munching you. And since they can start almost in the middle of the table and don't have to stay in coherency, the timer's pretty short before it's CC time. Though I must say, 33 boyz could probably do it
I rescind my comment about deep striking however; forgot about no reserves.
