As many of you know, almost every model is first created in a 3x version (84mm)... I have seen many at the tournies & gamesdays I have been to over the years, in display cases only, by GW & FW.... But does anyone have a clue of how to obtain them? I saw one on ebay a few years ago, and it went for over $400......Maybe GW would sell 'em to make some money? Thoughts?

They don't really do them anymore, since everything is being designed/scuplted via the computer these days.

This is how you obtain 3-up models.
Step 1: Hire a private millitary strike force.
Step 2: Storm GW HQ, taking hostages.
Step 3: Threaten to kill Jervis until they tell you where the 3-ups are.
Step 4: Escape with 3-ups.
Couldn't be easier!

Already tried this, Jervis threatened to make the Dark Angels codex worse, so we were forced to retreat.

Step 1: Hire a five-man black-ops killteam.
Step 2: Blow Jervis's brains out from half a mile away.
Step 3: Then storm GW HQ, taking hostages.
Step 4: Escape with 3-ups
Step 5: Destroy the molds for Nagash on your way out.
Couldn't be easier!

I believe they use a pantograph which traces the shape of the big one and carves the shape of the smaller one. This is how drawings and the like where magnified or shrunk before computers and copying machines where freely available. The same can be done for a 3D object, it's just more complicated. At least this is how I think it was described in an old White Dwarf when they first revealed the Eldar Grav Tank. Maybe these days they just scan it into a 3D scanner and the computer shrinks the design and cuts the mould.

Also littlenibbler Orks aren't about armour saves.

I actually have a metal 3 up, Space Marine.
I got it from a friend, when 3rd ed. was released, I think they made these in a limited run as a promo for 3rd.
So, they are out there just hard to find.

You might be confusing the 54mm Inquisitor scale that was released around that time...3 ups are 84mm (about 3 1/2 to 4 inches tall like an action figure scale)
