Okay, so i was busy assembling my box set of tyranid warriors the other day. I had just rushed to GW to buy some after college and was frothing at the mouth in anticipation of getting them together (Yes, i really like Nids ). After getting home i hurriedly took out my clippers and knife and got to work. In all the excitement of cutting them from the sprues and slicing away some of the flash however i pretty much nearly chopped the end of my finger off with my hobby knife Needless to say it hurt. . . like a
Several paper towels and some blood covered Nids later i got to thinking. . . Has anyone here on Dakka ever sustained a rather horrific, or perhaps comical, injury when pursuing the hobby? Has anyone got any grand old "war wounds" to display at their local gaming club ? Or is it just me who's a complete reckless idiot when it comes to assembling my models?
(The last one is probably the most likely )
*EDIT: I think this might belong in Dakka discussions as appose to on here?? Wasn't paying attention when i posted the topic sorry...

Read at your own discretion. There are some graphic images in there of injuries.
Still one of my favorites to read. It's comforting knowing that my minor scrapes and cuts along my thumb and fingers are nowhere near as bad as some of the slips in there.

After getting tired of walking around with modellers thumb one too many times, I cut the thumb off an old leather work glove. I now have a leather covering that I can use for my thumb to pull-cut towards without fear of chopping my thumb.

I was cutting models off of sprues a while back when I used a hobby knife instead of clippers. I brought the knife down at the wrong angle and the blade shattered and the pieces flew up and gave me multiple cuts on my palm.
On a lighter note, I usually dry brush using my hand instead of a tile, so one day after dry brushing with a couple different reds on my hand I accidentally freaked some people out when they came in and saw what appeared to be my had with blood all over it.

My left index finger is filled with cuts because for some reason i find it easiest to hold the xacto with my right hand and push the blade with the left , and the index finger sort of cradles the piece im working on.
And i just realized why my right thumb is always getting cuts from rubbing the plastic shavings off the xacto blade...
It appeared that specific type of blade = double sided , first time seeing that...

I actually tried that. Unfortunately, I wound up (rather neatly) pinning the leather piece to my thumb with the blade of my Xacto Knife.
After that, I put some serious work into safety with sharp objects. Seems to have paid off thus far. I'm by no means completely injury free, but it sure as hell beats pulling the greater part of a knife blade out of an appendage.

I've nipped off chunks of my fingers several times. But I find a little glue helps to stop the bleeding excellently. Just never spary it with zip-kicker. That stings like a mother

Makes sense, though. The knife is near the hands, and most people have a tight enough grip to hang on to the knife as it slips. Unless you've got a terrible grip or are trying to cut models with wet hands, chances are you're getting something in the hand or arm area.
That being said, I somehow managed to stab myself in the thigh while trimming a model. Absolutely NO idea how. The knife slipped and ended up in my leg, though luckily it was a pretty shallow wound and healed up within a day or so.

Yeah I cut myself pretty good back in 2nd Ed. I was cutting through a plastic sprue with an x-acto knife. It wouldn't cut, so what's the best solution? More force. I proceeded to put my other hand behind it for support and started straining down on the knife. Yeah it went through... and into my index finger. I now have half the feeling on the left side as on the right.
More recently, I decided to carve out excess super glue from a lictor's arm socket when his arm came off. I decided to pick up the ol' trusty x-acto and try to carve it all out. I got down and started working at it til the glue did exactly what I wanted, while the knife decided Newton was a pretty smart guy. I stabbed a nice hole into my supporting thumb.
