Subject: New Furioso Librarian Dread!!!...

My local game store got a preview copy of the new Blood Angels codex this week! Pretty cool stuff in there, but what especially drew my attention was the ability to upgrade a Furioso Dread to a Librarian for an additional points cost. This is a dream come true for my Blood Ravens army! Fluff wise, the Librarians run pretty strong in a Blood Ravens force. Now I can have the option of running plenty of Librarians in my army to go along with the story line and give my army a distinct feel. I'm not saying fielding a list like that will win alot, but I feel that the new Blood Angel codex is the perfect complement for the Blood Ravens. I do also have to say, that there are some other nifty choices besides the Librarian Dread that I might consider using in my Blood Ravens list as well!

I find it very amusing that despite being Dreads they can still use 'Wings of Sanguinius'.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made. |

I know right? I know I'm going to be fielding at least one.
I hope they come out with a kit for it soon, although, it wouldn't be that hard to make one from a Ven Dread kit...

No, what's amusing is the presence of so many stupid names in the book: Blood Fist! Blood Claws! Blood Strike Missiles! It's impossible to type 'Blood Fist!' without an exclamation mark at the end. !!!

As for the Blood Claws, the more I think of it the more I picture some Space Wolves stuck the end of a BA Dread's arms.

Well they are pretty violent and I think they'd make pretty good weapons if you were big enough to swing them, although it would sound silly on a wolves dread

Why do people give the marines a hard time about having a theme? The Wolves got the same thing.
"Wolf wolf wolf wolf" for them
"Blood blood blood blood" for the BA
IF you ask for some variety in the 4 SM codex's that are forced on the 40k people don't give them crap for that same variety.

Ever read their source material? They've got a dark secret, and are always after the Fallen- other Dark Angels who are out of the clos- I mean the Rock. They're also obsessed with plasma, a weapon with a rather homoerotic track record in the fiction of the universe. They were a fine tabletop force, and I may have given them a go myself- but I've been turned off of wings and technology ever since seeing that Gundam Wing movie. And now, to satisfy 'thine aching lust', I give you 'The Dark Angel' by Lionel Johnson (Not that Lion' el Johnson- a real previousy live poet!)
The Dark Angel
DARK Angel, with thine aching lust
To rid the world of penitence:
Malicious Angel, who still dost
My soul such subtile violence!
Because of thee, no thought, no thing,
Abides for me undesecrate:
Dark Angel, ever on the wing,
Who never reachest me too late!
When music sounds, then changest thou
Its silvery to a sultry fire:
Nor will thine envious heart allow
Delight untortured by desire.
Through thee, the gracious Muses turn,
To Furies, O mine Enemy!
And all the things of beauty burn
With flames of evil ecstasy.
Because of thee, the land of dreams
Becomes a gathering place of fears:
Until tormented slumber seems
One vehemence of useless tears.
When sunlight glows upon the flowers,
Or ripples down the dancing sea:
Thou, with thy troop of passionate powers,
Beleaguerest, bewilderest, me.
Within the breath of autumn woods,
Within the winter silences:
Thy venomous spirit stirs and broods,
O Master of impieties!
The ardour of red flame is thine,
And thine the steely soul of ice:
Thou poisonest the fair design
Of nature, with unfair device.
Apples of ashes, golden bright;
Waters of bitterness, how sweet!
O banquet of a foul delight,
Prepared by thee, dark Paraclete!
Thou art the whisper in the gloom,
The hinting tone, the haunting laugh:
Thou art the adorner of my tomb,
The minstrel of mine epitaph.
I fight thee, in the Holy Name!
Yet, what thou dost, is what God saith:
Tempter! should I escape thy flame,
Thou wilt have helped my soul from Death:
The second Death, that never dies,
That cannot die, when time is dead:
Live Death, wherein the lost soul cries,
Eternally uncomforted.
Dark Angel, with thine aching lust!
Of two defeats, of two despairs:
Less dread, a change to drifting dust,
Than thine eternity of cares.
Do what thou wilt, thou shalt not so,
Dark Angel! triumph over me:
Lonely, unto the Lone I go;
Divine, to the Divinity.
Lionel Johnson

Well its not that I hate SM, It's just that they have what 3 or 4 codices about Marines with more swords than guns now. I would have liked it more if they were all in the same book, but there's nothing that can be done about it. The Eldar Craftworlds have more variety than the Sm Chapters, but they're just fine in the same book But, I do like all the new fancy stuff for Dreadnoughts the BA are getting. I think I'll have to get around to building a dread with "wings" later, and by that I mean some sort of jet system as wings would look crappy on something as boxy as a Dreadnought.

The jet system sounds awesome! Were you thinking of a rocket pack or rocket boots? I'm curious to see how you resolve it with a dread- they've got strange bodies. I'd probably go for a NASA space shuttle approach and strap a trio of rocket boosters on its back. But then, everything I convert comes out Orky.

I'd go with something similar to what they used to drop non-jumpjet equipped mechs in mechwarrior 4, 4 boosters around the waist but an additional one for forward movement on the back

Two large downward angled boosters on the back, one straight out on the middle, two smaller ones on the waist sides and two built into the lower parts of the legs so as the flames go out of the center of the feet. Maybe make the two big ones look adjustable as if it could add their power to fly even faster forward while falling then use them again for braking at the last second so it doesn't smash apart it's flimsy little legs
Plus I guess it would need better ventilation and exhaust. Haven't started on it so the design isn't really set just some rough ideas. I'm currently thinking more on how to make that magna claw thing. I'm thinking a reel of chain attached to it on the arm, but not sure if I'll go for a big claw, a small claw, or something that looks like a strong magnet.
Of course I would reposition it so that it looks like it's flying whenever I do get around to it. I guess the new Venerable Dreaadnought would be a good start and would skip a step or two.

yes it would look pretty dumb, Tau suits already look dumb enough with them.
I've seen way too many Fire Prisms kill those things.
I was thinking having it on one foot like some of the jump infantry. Basically not adding any height to it so it's not modelling for an advantage but just to look cool

Yeah, but on the plus side I found the AoBR dread I don't use anymore so I've got a start on it. If it doesn't work out exactly how I want it I'm going to go with a mix of Ironclad and Ven dread parts. Then my Orks can loot the remains of the first one

I don't think I'm gonna model any fancy jump pack/wings on my Librarian Dread.....after all, Wings of Sanguinus is only a psychic power, not an actual physical piece of wargear that makes the Dread fly. I picture some sort of glowing orb that surrounds the Dreadnaught and levitates him around the battle field.
But, I do have to say, I can't wait to see some people's conversions/representations for this special ability/power.
I was thinking of putting little wings around his feet and on his head and also have him holding a can of Red Bull!! haha!
