I believe that you should be able to choose between firing a weapon twice as much if it is twin-linked, and any weapon with 2+ shots should be able to fire twin-linked.

I think it's keeping a balance of power. Imagine if the LR had 4 las cannons. Now it's getting reliably 3 hits per turn & that ups the power. Plus another 2 H.Bolter hits, which again ups the power. So they'd need to up the points on every twin linked weapon if you want it to be able to fire as if it were 2 weapons.

I think the "reroll miss" rule is a stupid representation of two guns strapped together anyway. It should be 2 shots with one to-hit roll.

Yeah... how is 1 shot going to miss and the other shot hit when they are pointed at any point in time at the exact same location?

TL Lascannon = roll for hit. If hit, you get 2 wounds. Makes more logical sense at least...

That doesn’t work, as more shots is always better than rerolls. Think of it this way, a reroll is just an extra shot you only get when the first shot misses – you’re always going to prefer to take two shots, getting to roll the second shot even when the first has already hit.

The issue with the current rule is strapping two guns together and letting rip actually produces a more consistent weapon, which doesn’t make a lot of sense when looking at twin linked lascannon. That’s why I like Ostrakon’s idea, you roll one die for each twin-linked shot, and every hit counts as two hits.

On the other hand, the rule works quite well for representing multi-shot weapons – you’re just spraying the general area with rounds, so sticking another gun on the side of the first would be poorly represented by Ostrakon’s idea. In that case rerolling hits makes some kind of intuitive sense.

Maybe a split rule, one for twin-linking single shot AT weapons that works like Ostrakon’s idea, and one for twin-linking multi-shot AP weapons, that works like twin-linking does at present.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

While realistically, two guns strapped together representing a re-roll is not realistic it is very functional. As sebster said it could just represent a spraying of weapon fire, or perhaps there was some sort of intervention, a daemon spawned in an unfortunate position and took a lascannon hit and vaporized, a hole to the warp spawned and closed just fast enough to swallow one of the shots. Whatever the reason may be while it isnt exactly realistic is it functional.

And 40k is not realistic. A good example would be, in fluff, you never hear of lascannon shots bouncing of rhinos, but it happens in 40k.

I seem to remeber in 3rd (or maybe even second) that twin linked were 1 to hit roll and 2 wounds. But I also remember tanks dying like flies every time I played so maybe there was a connection.
