I currently have about 2.5k worth of Orks (also own about 1k of an old chaos army) and am looking to start some army to complement it...
I'll most likely be winning my choice of Battle force this weekend.

I'm thinking I need a shooty, somewhat elite army, and the runners are

Eldar
Tau
Possibly marines

Currently I'm favoring Eldar just because I like the contents of their battleforce box.

Do you guys have any other army suggestions?Reasons to favor one over the other?

I'd say go with Marines. When they're your second army you can really work wonders with them with all the experience you now have. Not to mention that there's a lot of fun and competitive options with 'nilla Marines, SW and now BA!

2nd army is kind of a bad descriptor. I played in 2nd ed and owned Marines(later to be chaos), Orks, Eldar, and Sisters.

Stopped playing the game for 12 or so years and have recently gotten back into it. I've been playing for a little over a year and have a pretty solid grasp on 5th ed.

If I pick up marines it will be for SW or Nilla. I have no real want to play BA for the same reason I sold off most of my Chaos. Khorne felt a lot like my orks, and honestly they're my assault oriented army of choice.

My advice is to pick an army that plays differently and is painted differently from your 1st choice. If you use hordes of orks, take an army with loads of shooty elites and transports - if you play a kult of speed type army, take a gunline or a force centred around powerful assault units - anything that will allow you to take a break from your usual tactics and playstyle to try something new.

I'd go for a mech Eldar army.
Very fast and shooty, and fun to play.

I'd second the Eldar choice.

Eldar, because that's the way you're leaning.

But if you really want shooty, Marines or Tau are your best bets.
