Hey, fellow gamers. I'm a new Necron player, coming from a Space Marines background. I've been modeling stuff from Tau, SM, IG, and even Eldar, but none of these armies have prepared me for the dastardly Green Rods that the Necrons have. I understand that I am supposed to glue them on after I paint my precious minions, but, from what I heard, GW plastic glue doesn't work on paint. Also, I have Necron lord (with a rez orb, of course), with a staff that also has a rez orb. His staff has a top that goes onto the rod, but doesn't seem to connect to the staff, itself. Are there any Necron players out there that can help out a hapless newbie like me figure out what to do with the rods?

Use PVA glue for gluing the green rods onto the guns, it dries clear and wipes off really easy if you put too much on. As for the Lord, there should be a Staff of Light and a Warscythe. The staff of lights rod goes below the staff assembly with a further metal piece at the bottom. The Scythe the rod sits behind the blade with a tiny piece on top of the rod. The "other end" pieces for the lord weapons are tiny and easy to miss, they are usually moulded onto a tap of metal that looks like excess, I had to go digging through a bin to find mine the other day :(

GW Plastic glue does work on paint, but for translucent material it tends to fog it up big time It also melts paint so be careful. (i've had to repaint my models after painting my first tactical squads because of this.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. I'll probably prime these guys tonight if I get the chance... But I do want to know if there are any words of warning that I can get about the PVA glue on the figs. I'm thinking of getting some on my way home today, but I just want to make sure that I don't have to buy another box of Warriors in case I screw something up royally.

Of course, I'm sure there isn't much of a trick to using PVA glue, but then again, only the fool works with tools he doesn't understand. Especially when using them on tiny 40k models, amirite?

PVA is water based and won't harm your models, if thats what you're worried about

In the worst case, if you splodge it a bit you will have a slightly lumpy and shiny section on your model when the glue dries clear. You should be able to avoid that by using the end of a brush to dab the stuff into the rod mounting points.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

Oh, boy, this is embarrassing. When I tried painting the staff's cap (the very top of the staff) I dropped it (little surprise.) When I Moved back to try to find it, I squished it into a fine metal pancake.

So, now I need to figure out how I can convert the staff into something that looks slightly less dumb than just a green rod, or see if I can replace the tip with something.

well, if i know one thing, ive been using plastic cement on the green bulbs and they have never chipped off or fogged up and as a sunstitute, once i had stuck 2 scarabs to each other to look like a glyph or staff piece, you should try this
