Rhino: lots of guys zooming around in shells.
Razorback: a few guys zooming around in shooting shells.
Drop Pod: lots of guys in your enemy's face, shooting at him.

Rhino is best when you have ICs with your squads or you don't Combat Squad them.

Razorbacks for when you like combat squad-ing, probably leaving the other half with a heavy weapon far away.

Drop pods are good if you like getting to shoot at your opponent right away, and possibly blocking objectives with the open-topped liable-to-explode metal sheets.

I use drop pods. The others are fun too.

EDIT:
As for the Land Raiders, they're all great too. The Phobos pattern is good at keeping your troops cozy and warm at your home objectives, firing lascannon shots at your opponent's tanks. The Crusader is good at charging your troops forward and having a billion varied shots, some of which you can shoot at ICs and tanks so it's a lot of fun. The Redeemer is pretty much the same as the Crusader, but with shorter range and more concentrated power.

What you put in all these things is up to you, but generally people like assault-y guys in the land raiders, and shooty guys in the drop pods, rhinos, and razorbacks.

All have there merits. It really all depends on circumstance and who it is carrying. Personally I love drop pods and rhinos. Razorbacks tend to be to small where as land raiders tend to be to expensive

thanks guys I think that the land raider crusader/redeemer has some pretty good stats but where I live its like $100 so maybe a drop pod how do they work can you just land them any where?

However they have inertial guidance. If they scatter they will stop 1" short of models or impassible terrain. If you land in difficult terrain you only take the test for the pod. Its a good way to get troops right in your enemies face. If you run vulkan its fun to run melta and multi-melta so you can try and pop a tank right out of the pod. If its not a kill point mission you can always combat squad and get your multi-melta (or other heavy weapon) to cover and actually get to fire the thing. Downside to the drop pods is they can leave your squads without support if used incorrectly and they are an easy kill point.

The greater good needs some moo.

What about deep striking LRs?

I know they mishap horribly but the look on your opponents face when you deep strike the LR filled with hammernaters

Yet you still mount your Warboss in a Trukk, despite insisting they are stronger than marines? Whatever.

For normal troops, a DP or Rhino will do, but for command and high ranking units, a Razorback is awesome.

I think it is a bad idea to make your strong unit a double target by also having a better gun on it. You should use all rhinos or all razorbacks.

At the very least reverse them (less strong units get razorbacks).

Rhino, because nothing tops Metal Boxes; not even Stronger Metal Boxes or Metal Boxes with a bigger gun on top.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

Razorbacks give you more tactical options IMO.

You can surge forward, OR, you can choose to hang back for a bit and make the opponent come to you while you shoot away.

As an example, here is a sample list from a buddy of mine who generally makes strong lists. Note; I have not played this or seen it played but it has all the right bits in it.

Librarian, Fear of the Darkness, and either Unleash Rage or Shield of Sanguinius

I have IG stormtroopers in rhinos and I love sending 5 rhinos fulll of storm troopers zooming towards the enemy as a whole squad has to shoot at a single rhino and normally only contain 1 or 2 weapons that can hurt them so with 5 3 out of 5 always make it to the enemy ready to deal rapid firing death!

If you're still collecting mini's and vehicles, my suggestion would be to save up for the Battleforce set, since they come with a wide variety of different infantry and a Rhino, for about $30 less than their individual value.

You save a lot of money by buying them, and even if you don't use all of the infantry, you can trade or sell them afterwards.

And $100 for a Land Raider?!?! What's the ratio between the US dollar and what they use in New Zealand?

If you want a rhino or a razorback, always buy the razorback kit. You everything that's in the rhino kit, plus extra bits in the form of guns and such.

So you can make both the razorback turret and the rhino hatch and switch back and forth, trying them both out!

Oh, you're a kiwi. Do you know the Chch lads (James, Tony, Tim, Cam, Nick etc)? They do the "tournament circuit" in NZ

They use the NZ Dollar in kiwi land. Todays rate 1USD=1.41NZD.

It's expensive because the ships have to fall off the edge of the world first.

This is a good idea. Any advice we give you is essentially worthless unless you actually know the basic rules of the game, such as what transports are and how they work.

It's a little daunting I know. I've recently started collecting Fantasy, reading up on the Dark Elf forums can get confusing when they use acronyms to describe everything, such as BSB, CoK, RoH, RXB, etc. Keep researching though and you'll get it eventually.

Edit: My advice is to buy the Razorback, just don't glue down the turret. That way you can run it as a Razorback or a Rhino depending on the game.
