I don't see Space Hulk in there.

And where are the mentions of the cool cut scenes of Final liberation of that Commisar? THOSE were what made that SGI game for me.

They are still available on Youtube, along with that cheese and crack ups Space Marine chant with the Dr Who 1980's effects.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

How do you not see Space Hulk?

It's the very first thing after the introduction to the background of 40k on the very first page of the article, Grot.

I think Fire Warrior gets a lot of unwarranted stick. Yeah it wasn't the worlds best game, but it wasn't godawful rubbish either.

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

Yes it was. The guns would fire off in random directions no matter how carefully you aimed (conefire on drugs). The AI was stupid. The concept was stupid. The gameplay was bad. The graphics were lacklustre. The effects were bad. Lasguns shots simply stopped after a certain distance (vanished into thin air - you could be standing at one end of a trench and have Guardsmen shooting at you and the shots would never hit both because they'd fire off in different directions and because the shots didn't reach the end of the trench you were standing on).

I remember fighting the Vulture at the end of the first level, and when I killed it did the mighty gunship burst into flames and crash before me? No it... popped. There was an explosion sprite and the Vulture was just... gone.

It wasn't just bad, it was terrible. The only good thing to come of it - and even this is a stretch - was the book.

And they forgot Rites of War and Squad Commander.

Agree to disagree- despite the problems with some of the set pieces, I found it to be a good depiction of the 40k universe. I've never had the problem you mentioned with lasguns, although I admit it was frustrating that every shot went through the final boss.

For an early PS2 game I found the graphics to be reasonable- not exceptional, but not dire either. The cutscenes were exceptional, and the story was engaging. All in all, not an exceptional game IMO, but not the worst game out there by a long way.

Cool article but there is another thread in the dakka discussions board, where this is best suited for.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.
