I didn't want to rehash a thread from two months ago:

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/275544.page#1285538

So, instead I am just going to pose a few situations (since they weren't covered in that thread to any extent):

The impaler cannon's rule specifically states: "The target can only count the benefits of cover they are in or touching if it lies between them and the Hive Guard."

So, a couple things:

1. A hive guard being > 2" into terrain, therefore conferring a cover save. Since the enemy isn't touching the cover and is not in the cover, they cannot get the save from the Hive Guard being 2" or more into a piece of terrain.

2. KFF, Turbo-boosting, Venomthropes, etc: do the cover saves in question count as being "in cover"? Some of these things grant a cover save simply say, "are granted a cover save of 4+ (or what have you)". So, technically, they are not "in" or "touching" cover, so they cannot get their saves.

3. Or, is this rule being read incorrectly and should instead read: "If the enemy is in or touching cover, the cover must be between them and the Hive Guard to confer a cover save." This sounds like the same sentence, but the structure is a bit different. It's not reading "You don't get any cover from the impaler cannon." Instead, it reads "If you're in terrain or touching terrain, you can only get cover if it is between you and the hive guard. This does not exclude other forms of cover."

Are "terrain" and "cover" being used interchangeably here? The reason I ask is not to drum up YMDC debate, but rather for clarification as I haven't played with or against them yet.

1) The Enemy gets no Cover save
2) They get the cover saves

1) See ninja Gwar
2) See ninja Nos
3)It doesn't read exactly as you say, it's quite clearly explained in the codex on page 47 it's worth noting this makes it impossible for them to claim a cover save if they are sharing the terrain with each other.

Probably... how bout you?

OT:
Impaler cannons are going to be quite useful imo in a lot of situations, being able to not have LOS to shoot will be a great advantage that is normally reserved for ordanance.

My post had a point - yours? Not so much.

The impaler cannons are incredibly useful as objective holders - keep a unit of stealers on the objective (or something else good in CC) and HG to keep enemy light troop vehicles away.

Really? To repeat exactly the same thing that the previous poster had said (which, ironically enough was Gwar! - didn't we touch on this last week?) almost verbatim?

And keep the Mod Alerts coming, Nos

Not everyone automatically agrees with gwar.
The point of posting a question in here is to get a good answer and two people saying the same thing reinforces their answer. Get over it.

Sure puma, you keep believing what you want to believe.

Adding reinforcement that the previous post was correct adds weight to the answers given. Given this is a forum for debating I would have thought this was implicit, but I guess you need to be told this. Again.

The funny thing is that you can't make a post like this without engaging in the exact same behavior, and feeding into it.

The thing is - post count is pointless. There's no special benefit for having 1,000 or 10,000 posts on Dakka. I see Gwar's post count and think, "Unemployed super nerd" and move along. No one cares about post count.

And Gwar, you know you're my favorite.
