No one likes to lose. Some handle it better than others! How would you feel about someone who lost, and is obviously somewhat upset, but they give you a weak smile, and still say great game? Or the guy who keeps blaming "the dice". Or a person who says "great game!" but harps on their one mistake. Which losers do you hate, and which ones are cool? Any interesting loser stories?

^^ This is how I lose in tourneys. For better or worse, I'm not a good enough actor if someone wants to ding me on sports after beating my ass

Everyone goes to win, no matter how much you say you're just "there to have fun" you want to win.
If you play in enough tournaments, you know that thems the breaks sometimes. Sometimes dice hose you. Sometimes you just get romped. Sometimes a sour apple hoses your soft scores. It happens. Take the lumps, learn from it and move on. There is always another tourney
I find being outgoing and relaxed without coming off as a kiss-ass not only helps the sportsmanship, but also eases bruised ego's considerably. If a guy is still moaning over dice/mistakes/your list/rules/other, thats just how it is. I'll nod and smile and give whatever input is needed or just let him get it out of his system.
If losing a game or even a tournament is going to ruin the whole event for you, odds are tournaments aren't for you in the first place.
To sum it up: Be gracious in victory or defeat and you will find your enjoyment of tournaments goes up quite a bit.

As long as the game has been enjoyable, I dont mind losing - even in a tournament.
By "enjoyable" i normally mean close, interesting game, maybe some cool / odd things happened or some desperate manouvers paid off.
I also find losing is good when your opponent isnt an insufferable idiot who gloats over your every "mistake", real or imagined.

The greatest games are close ones. I don't like games when one side was tabled, no matter which side I'm on. On tourneys being the tabling one of course isn't that bad

I hate it when opponent gloats how great a strategist he is when he gets good rolls and then whines on bad luck because of 1 bad roll.
In my 2 tourney experiences I had the luck of loosing to very nice, and fun people. Constantly being fun and making small talk no matter what side was victorious. At the same time I was winning to all those guys who looked down on me because they have been playing for more than 5 years and I'm a noob.
So far no luck in tourneys but I really had a good time.

I've been all 3 at one point. I rarely blame my dice but I once shot 3 rail guns, 10 plamsa rifles, 8 missile pods, a cyclic ion blaster & a full 24 pulse rifles into a Tervigon and failed to kill it, and that was only turn one. . . My opponent even agreed after the game saying something like "Man if I were you I'd throw those things out & go buy new ones this second"
Also I try not to harp on my mistake but every now & then one stupid error will cost me the game & I try to keep it quite but I always curse myself under my breath.

Shake hands.
"Good Game".
Collect my thoughts.
Then question, what I could do better next time. The question is posed to myself and the opponent.
Happens win or lose actually. Every game is a learning experience.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

I try to have fun with it, but sometimes I can get a little down if the dice truely do crap out on me (once failed 4 of 5 2+ armor saves)
The last tournament I played in I was up at table 2 before getting my butt handed to me by 2 ork players and a space wolf player the next 3 games. But I learned a lot about how to combat orks while playing Dark Eldar and it made me change my lists in the future to make my army more well rounded.
Of course there was that space wolf game... rolling 1s for fleet on 2 units of wyches that ended up being 6 1/2 inches away in the assault phase was truely brutal. But I had fun, even if I was ready to burn my dice.

By far the worst in my mind are the ones who don't say "Good game" or anything, and only barrage you with "Well, I could've done X had the game not ended" or "Man, that Land Raider is so unfair."
Or, actual quote "Yeah, you may have won, but if we'd had another turn, my Libby would have messed up your Defiler."

I'm more than just a good loser, I'm a brilliant one.
I get spanked (20-0) about 5x more than I win by the same margin. Hell, I draw more than I win overall.
Sometimes the dice don't roll your way. If your ego can't handle losing, then don't attend a tournament.

I'm, more often than not, on the losing side. Usually very bad losses, too. I always smile, shake their hand, and say good game.
Now, I do get pretty upset when the entire time the guy is gloating and talking about how nothing I have is a threat. But apart from that, I'm usually pretty cool about losses.

I have mixed reactions to loosing, as it dosn't happen to very often unless im learning a new army or a new set of rules, like planetstrike or citys or battlemissions....even then the losses are not there
I've played enough and have had enough tactical history that i can generally see whats going to happen afor hand and when i do loose its generally a bit heated, but never at my opponent they got the win and i always give them their kudos, i generally just get mad at myself.
however i do have a fun story about one of the best games i had ever played....my first tournament with my nids, and i get set up with a gent around that wins games and tournies more often then i do...so i was pretty nervous going in to it....just to find out he was playing his salamanders....full of flamers, heavy flamers and melta! the bane to the nids! We both knew the match was going to be against me, and we both had a good attitude going into it...and lo 6 turns later i won a minor over him, and the game itself was filled with some of the most fun twists turns and tactical choices we both had done in a long time it was by the both of our opinions, "the best game we had played"
That game helps me anytime i lose because i remember how much fun we had playing, and even in the loss how much we had a great time...and how he didn't go out the window on how he was beaten

Two options.
1) Blame poor dice rolls and a bad mission for their loss. Don't really care.
2) Point and laugh. Don't really care.

Lol ! i mus tell that, mostly i take it with sense of humor, anyway, sometimes the dices really messed my entire match, (all we know it, a bad day with the dices can screw best tactics...) but there's other factor.... the other player... i had to face real stupid people who only enjoys by embarrassing their oponent. So, mainly, i have fun even in defeat, without problem to remind myself my errors... but the oponent must beware of having a bad attitude about me.... really beware

Definitely the guy who goes on about how X unit I used was just whipping his ass regardless of the game.
Coming to tournaments, I try to bet myself what spread I expect to land in and aim for there, normally landing around middle tier towards winnings, IE 15/40 and such. I'm not a great list builder and I don't power game, I just like to see how well of a name I get around for being that guy with the list that shouldn't work but somehow does. That and bringing Necrons doesn't hurt/help either.

The guys I play with are great sports. We all hang out on a regular basis and have drinks or whatever, so there aren't really any bad loser stories here.
Of course there are times when things really don't go your way and I will go into detail on 1 of these occassions.
Had a 1k game where I had held all my nids in reserve barring a tervigon who was in cover behind the fortress of redemption. Opponent deployed his tau suits and hammerhead and won the roll off. firing from 3 missile pods killed off the tervigon. That's 6 hits, 6 wounds, 6 failed saves. I was pretty angry and I wasn't that gracious about it. I think he tabled me by turn 3 as well. I moaned about it but have since recovered. There's a lesson to be learned in every situation on the battlefield.
I guess in our group our after battle banter really is just a way of improving our tactics and becoming better players.

what about the losers that get really upset and start yelling... yea those are the worst. The ones mentioned above are annoying (I like to use the "bad dice" BECAUSE ITS TRUE!!) but its happen to everyone and depending on how they take it or they just kinda joke around with it is how I rate them.
