I decided to give up because I just find it too stressful and expensive, plus my painting skills are not very good what ever I try to do always goes wrong even though I have been playing for a couple of years. I will probably come back into it when I have a small job and I have better artistic skills through my art lessons, I am only 15. So you won't see me round that much so adios amigos! (I have friendship problems to sort out any way, plus a girl that I am keeping an eye on )

I wish you well but at 15, if you're that worried about keeping an eye on your girl...you need to drop her and move on. And a hobby should in no way cause you stress, the intent of a hobby in general is to get rid of stress.

Curtis i am in the same boat as you. at 15 i find it very hard to get models even with parents about. and timewise i have trouble too. GCSEs and the lot. though at 16 i will hope to work at waitrose to gain a bit of money to start buying so more.

i advise you, if you do get moments of boredom. take a look at your 40K and say to yourself: "Does that model need a bit more detail there?" or "damn, still havn't finished that bit off". and just spend an hour or so on it, every now and then. the idea of a hobby is under 'free time', so keep it like it. don't buy any models, just stick with what you got.

Well I winking about stepping back from the hobby just for a little bit, not for ever because I love the hobby I might still play with what I have got once a week in the store, I think that I just need to set more boundaries and restrictions until I get a job and finished GCSEs.

Yeah but I don't get many relationship opportunitys plus she is not ugly and she is smart and she is not out of my league so I think I should go with it.

i wish i could just hi5 you right now lol. good for you mate! does she know you do 40k. because if she does she might realise that you need some time with 40k and recognise that. or even better, she might go "WOW that looks cool i want to start. right, women in thin suites and flamethrowers..... why didn't you tell me about this before!"

Curtis: take a break and we'll still be here for you when you get back. Be sure to pack away the minis, don't get rid of them. That way when it's time to jump back into gaming you won't have made the mistake a lot of us did when we thought we'd quit, sell everything, things would change, and we'd have to buy everything back!

And at the risk of being called a heretic, Chasing girls > 40k!

Never let a hobby stress you out, that's when it stops being fun.

At the same time, never completely give up something you enjoy because of outside pressures, that's a sure way to end up miserable.

Don't worry about taking a break from the hobby for a bit, or even from just one part of it - everyone does that. I've been playing for 20 years now and there have been years where I haven't played, haven't painted or both.

ETA, don't dither on the girl - waiting too long is almost as bad as doing nothing. Tell her you like her and invite her to an activity with you. (make it clear that you're going anyway but that she can come)

I'm 13, I don't have a girlfriend, not because I can't get one, but over the years and with my, errr, charming? ways I've managed to go out with most off the decent ones. The thing is, none of tehm cared, I've been at wargaming about a year now, and nobody seems to care, one girl got quite interested in it, but that, ermm, didn't go too well. Yeh that'll do. Anyway good luck to ya, hopefully you'll get a job and get more money, I wish I could. Seeya around the forums.

All the best with the girl. When you come back to the hobby in a few years time you'll appreciate it in a totally new way.

You brighten my life like a polystyrene hat, but it melts in the sun like a life without love, and I've waited for you so I'll keep holding on without you.

It's like I tell my kids, one of whom is your age, it takes time to get good at painting. Don't expect to be as good at the guys at WD at first.

Take some time off. We all have at one point. When youa re ready to come back, no doubt the WH crap will still be here.

15 is a complicated age for many. New hobbies, learning to drive, girls, more studie, crazy hormones... where does it end?

You're still young. Put ya stuff in a box but don't forget about it. I stopped at 17 and didn't pick it back up until 33!! (well, I saved a lot of money eh???)

Remember, girls don't mind your hobbies, as long as they are your favorite hobbie.

Currently collecting and painting Eldar from W40k.

w00t you get to learn to drive at 15 in oz. i envy you!

OoieGoie strange girls you know then lol. I mentioned to a friend that her ex (and one of my friends) used to do warhammer and she was like. "OMG why??!! its utter rubbish."

Curtis as long as you don't think about 40k until the time comes to start again. because when i quit 2 years ago i was like: "OMG i wasted all my money" (well, my parents. ) i was hitting myself for spending all my christmas money on elysians, and buying empire warhammer battalion. but then i went back to it a month ago because i was bored and was so happy i didnt think about selling my 40k (although i still want to sell my empire battalion on ebay, i really don't like WH fantasy.)

Worrying about girls at 13? Awesome, I had my first GF at 17 (nearly 18) and lasted 2 years, I'm now nearly 21 and in my second relationship, around 1,5 year now, quality over quantity Both don't really care anything for my nerdier habits, but they don't dislike it either, my current one often lets me do stuff on my army even if she's around.

Agreed, shame not many girls I know have 'quality'. :/ Anyways that's OT good look curtis.

(in sepulchral tones of vast antiquity)...

I was playing wargames before your race first discovered fire. I have painted little miniature warriors since the long night of eternity was shattered by what you humans call 'the big bang'... and I'm still crap at it! When the last stars gurgle down the plughole of entropy, I'll still be re-rolling armor saves...

But, well, I've been away for 15 years getting my plans in line so that I have enough spare time, cash and... well, just those two, really, to play 40k. Does that mean it's too expensive for the common grot? Perhaps. Three words for GW - economies of scale!

Warhammer came out in 1983. Your friend has been playing since 1976. Does not compute.

Like a couple of others, I have also been wargaming longer than many of you have been alive.

Hell, I took a tournament hiatus longer than some of you have been around (too many TFGs).

Lots of kids pull out in their mid-late teens. No shame in it.
I couldn't - I was 20 when I seriously started playing - and 19 when it (40k) first came out.

Those years are when lots of things clamour for your attention and time. Girls, studies, other life in general. Give up the wardollies for a few years. The hobby will still be here when you get back (barring GW doing something so slowed it gets them bought out by Hasbro).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...
