The lawyer for a Lebanese man sentenced to death in Saudi Arabia for witchcraft has appealed for international help to save him.
Ali Sabat was the host of a popular Lebanese TV show in which he predicted the future and gave advice.
Well...her never saw this coming

How long ago did we stop burning witches? Why did we stop? How can you say that it is an 'extremist' thing when it is the practice in so many Islamic nations? I keep hearing 'it's not the religion, it's the 'tribal tradition' or 'how they behave in that part of the world' and yet the nations we cite for these barbaric practices are governed directly or hugely influenced by the religious communities/power bloks within them.
And those religious leaders do not speak out.
And neither do the religious leaders of Islam across the rest of the world. Aside from very few who might find part of the Qur'an that disagrees, the rest are silent.
Me against my brother, my brother and I against my Uncle, my family against the outsider. Whether or not the 'moderates' find the practices of the 'extremists' to be un-Islamic, there is no widespread condemnation for fear of being the first one to stick your head above the wall and agree with the infidels.

How come we don't expect Christian leaders to come out of the woodwork every time some Christian nut does something stupid? Where were the calls for Christian leaders to go on TV when those uber-right wing zealots were arrested in Michigan (and a few sorrounding states) just the other day to allay the worlds fears that not all Christians are like that? Or when Timmy bombed Fed building, or whenever ect ect. Of course this doesn't matter nearly as much as the fact that they do speak out all the time, you just have to be listening and watching. It isn't as sexy so it doesn't make the front page.

Alrighty. Regardless of my personal views, to be even handed here, if we can't discuss certain items about the Catholic Church as they would be considered an attack against a specific religion, I have to do the same for this thread. We can discuss the merits of the burning witches, philosophy and religion in general, but Dakka is forum inconveniens for a discussion of the merits of a specific faith.
As such I am closing. MDG you are free to repost the original topic as a discussion of the original topic.
