I made a looted wagon out of spare bits and stuff and have only played one game with it so far.
Is it worth having in an army and if so what are some good tactics for fielding it?

From non-Ork player...

A transport Wagon is OK otherwise, except that it takes a HS slot, where Orks have tons of good stuff. I guess it's good in smaller games where you don't need all your HS slots. A Boomwagon is way too fragile for its cost.

The answer is no, if they was cheaper and allowed you to take a squadron I would like them

With above, and above again, no they are a great fire platform, but they are not worth it due to low armor.

I think that they are a decent transport, with better armor than the trukk, at only an additional five points for one big shoota. The question I have: What wagon should you loot? I ask this, because each tank, etc. has its own dimensions and such. Which one has the best angles?

They're 5pts more expensive (assuming you buy the basic bigshoota, which you should), take up a HS slot, lose fast, lose ramshackle, gain don't press dat... all for 1 armor.

They're in this weird place... trukks are much better light transports and battlewagons are much better heavy transports/gun platforms. The wagon does not present anything worth making it a middle of the road choice, in my opinion.

Something like the forgeworld big trakk (http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/pdf/bigtrakk.pdf) fills that hole, the wagon just doesn't.

The only time I'd take them is if I really needed a ride for a squad that couldn't buy a trukk, and was in such a low point game that I couldn't afford a battlewagon. And I'd probably rewrite my list instead.

If they could be taken as boyz transports, I'd like them a lot. But as I have to use up a HS slot to take one, I'd rather take a battlewagon - usually better value for the points cost.

(Nostalgic sigh for the old codex that let you take 3 in one HS slot, so long as they only had cheap upgrades...)

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

Take battlewagons with killkannon or trukks instead depending on what you are after.

Between Alpha and Omega, and a little to the left

One of the only uses I can see for a Looted wagon is the Boomgun, but Big Gunz are more consistent and can be taken in more numbers.

I have a buddy who used a Falcon and put it on top of the old Trukk chassis.

Sadly, not as much as the luxury model.

I quite like them. As has been stated, they aren't terribly competitive due to the price - but the Boomgun is a marine-killer par exellence. Whenever I've taken them, I've brought more than one and placed a Big Mek w/KFF within 6". That increases their survivability a little, plus I always find that they give my opponent something to think about as my Green Tide creeps forward...

If you can keep them alive for a couple of turns (a big 'if', that...), they can make their points back. I've killed whole Tactical squads with them before.

CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT!

Game-wise, i've never tried them, but come on, Looted Wagonz are what Orks were meant to use. I'm planning on sporting one in a list just because of of the conversion possibilities!

Looted Wagons, like most Ork units, have the capability to unleash some severe hurt on people. Unfortunately, for all the reasons stated above, they do not make a very competitive choice. Though since I have some nicely converted toy tanks and such as looted wagons, I do like to break them out once in a while.

When I've played them I usually run two with the boomguns. I line them up as close to the edge of deployment as possible so they'll be in range turn 1, which is really the only turn you can rely on them living.

I usually have them flanking a BW with KFF Mek so they'll at least have that 4+ save. If you have first turn they can be devastating because you can zoom up your BW and trukks to present a more immediate threat, so they'll gain some survivability that way.

The looted wagons most memorable moments for me was when a looted wagon destroyed 8 assault marines that were about to come around the flank and mess up my lootas. Of course this required me to roll a hit, which I did.

In the end they're fun, relatively cheap for the ordinance it provides, and fun to model and convert. In a competitive setting however, they have no place.

Hell No

Use the looted wagon you built as a battlewagon.

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

A looted wagon isn't an optimal choice in your standard 1,850 to 2,000 point list, because the boomgun option is too fragile for its points cost and the low cost transport and big shoota mobiles are decent value but chew up a heavy slot that is better spent on killa kans and battle wagons. But considering things only in terms of optimal choices for 1,850 to 2,000 points games makes for a really, really boring hobby.

Looted wagons are one of the best opportunities for really unique feature pieces in an ork army. Copping a slight to efficiency so that you can include a really cool model is a worthwhile trade off. You're also getting a solid unit for a low points cost, so it isn't like you're sinking 200 points into some flash gitz, you're dropping 50 odd points into a big shoota carrier, or less than that into a taxi for some nobz.

If you're not obsessed with taking tournament hard lists at 1,850 points in every game the looted wagon is a decent option.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

Whenever I've used them they've attracted CRAZY amounts of fire - the combination of being percieved as ridiculously easy to kill and the Boomgun being (rightly) percieved as 'killy' seem to make them an irresistible target. It's an interesting psychological phenomenon and one which, when judiciously applied, can produce results.

In friendly games.

Tell your opponent you made it before the battle wagon model came out and it's a battle wagon.

They are like weird boyz, and SAG fun in concept, a waste of time in play

Like the others, if you're going to a tournament leave it at home, but if all you care about are friendly games go ahead! It's more of a fun unit than a WAAC unit

Yes they die quickly but the boomwagon is fun-on-the-bun! nothing frightens a guard army in tight deployment like a wildly scattering S8 AP3 large blast, just don't expect to snipe tanks or characters with it.

Like some of the other units (cf flash gitz) they could have had better rules, but what they hey!
