Today I received my copy of Codex Blood Angels in the mail. The release day on the gw site says April 3rd not the 1st. Did I get mine early because I pre-ordered (which I did) or did they make a mistake?

GW doesn't make mistakes.

yep they do that sometimes with pre-orders. Basically so you get it before the release date rather than after. However, sometimes they dont - it's a crap shoot.

I got my Blood Angels Codex on Tuesday, which surprised me to say the least

If you pre-order, they attempt to get you the Codex for release date. Sometimes it's early (as was the case this time), sometimes it's late (my Nid codex arrived the day after release).

The thing to remember is that shipping times are essentially random, and on top of that random factor you have the time required to go through GW's internal shipping and handling queues. If there's a situation where there are a lot of orders (more than can get shipped out in one day), the orders that get processed first are going to go out "early" and probably arrive "early" with no deliberate benevolence involved.

In the past, I think people have reported getting things like the spearhead boxes up to week early, so a codex a few days early isn't too surprising.

Maybe they thought nobody would believe you. After all, it IS April 1st.

That is the thing with pre-orders. They send them all out when the pre-order stock has all been ordered.

Have a holiday weekend coming here in the US, so they may have sent it early to avoid shipping snags. On the other hand, I've gotten pre-orders before, right at, and after the release date, so I doubt there is any rhyme to the reason.

A new day, a new time zone.

GW starts shipping preorders before the actual release date. This happens with all advance orders.

I pre-ordered something once from GW. I got it two weeks after the street date. Nothing is guarenteed.
