This is my preliminary 'Ard Boyz list, has yet to be tested out but, looking for comments from you guys. I think Tigurius might be worth his points in a list like this, the ability to re-roll all failed and successful reserve rolls could really come in handy. 2500 Pts - Space Marines Roster HQ: Chief Librarian Tigurius (1#, 230 pts) . . 1 Chief Librarian Tigurius @ 230 pts (Unit Type: Infantry; The only thing I would consider a downside to this list is the sheer amount of kill points you offer your opponent. 26 kill points by my count. Since you already have a good amount of Melta I would possibly either just remove a drop pod or 2 and switch a couple dreadnaughts to lascannon. They will still have range and tank stopping power and will save you some kill points. At least one match of every Ard Boyz' tournament will be kill point based so you have to keep that under consideration. Other than that its a great theme with the dreads.
The only other thing I would think about (and this is just cause its fun/effective) would be dropping the land speeder storm and their related scouts and getting rid of Tigurious to put in Vulkan. Give him a LR Crusader and as many TH/SS termies as you have points for and will fit in there. Vulkan will auto twin link all your melta shots and master craft the TH. You could even ditch the auto cannons for las and keep the meltas for drop pods. This helps lower how many kill points you have in your roster and keeps it a heavy hitter. Telion is amazing especially in a squad with a missile launcher.
Trading Tigurius for Vulkan, dropping the speeders, and ditching an elite choice dred for the termies (LR Crusader as DT) should balance relatively closely for points. Thats my 2 cents.

I agree about putting Vulcan in, but the the storms with a multi melta, sarge with powerfist and combi-melta, and close combat weapons = win. If you have first turn, scout forward 24" + 12" move means you can shoot or assault anywhere on the table. Vehicles will fear you, soft troops will think oh oh. Remember, Storms are open topped.
You need to look out for IG with Mystics. They could put a serious frown on a all deep striking army.

Ignore you? Your not really saying anything. Your list is not good enuff is not very helpful To the others, thanks for the advice but, I'm really trying to avoid, actually there's not a chance I would ever field Vulcan Cheese'Stan. I know for a fact to be a competitive Space Marine player you don't need to have Vulcan in your list. Other than that I would have to drop either the Librarian which is kingpin for list this high up in points or the MoTF which then I would have to totally redo my list.

Great thread name I like the concept of the dread spam... mainly because I love dreads... Master of the forge is an interesting choice but I can see his uses here definitley. Honestly though I just don't like Tigerius, what exactly are you going to use him for? EDIT: Nevermind, the reserves thing.

I agree completely that Vulkan isn't needed for a competative list. I had a lot of fun with a heavy assault oriented army with Shrike. Infiltrate, jump forward, first turn assault . Since your wanting to keep Tigurious I still think its a good idea to reduce kill points. Sticking with the assault theme you could switch your fast attack to either a squad of standard assault marines or a vangaurd veterans squad so they can assault off of the deep strike. Put locator beacons on some of the drop pods and you can get the assault off the deep strike pretty frequently. This will both reduce kill points and still give you the assautly goodness. Also since your using Tigurious to re-roll reserves you have a good chance to get them when you want them.

You create a line o' death withing his deployment zone. If you land close enough to their table edge and run, you can effectively block a good portion of the table. If they cant come on, they are destroyed.
I like the list overall (mostly I like lots o marines). But all those pods could be toasted vs an IG Mystic. Are there any things you can do to prevent that? Other then hoping your Libby pod isnt destroyed and trying to counter the mystic with the psychic hood?
Other than that it looks pretty killy.

paulguise- uh. We're talking about mech eldar right? You know, the ones with all the skimmers that can just fly right over the 'line o death'? Then thank you for doing so, because then they can turn around and shoot your rear armour. That doesn't sound like a good idea. If you get reserved against, you really only have 1 choice with an all pod army- castle up in the middle, and act like you didn't just pay 300+ points to move the army into the middle of board. (the pods are nice for cover at least lol) IG don't have mystics. Daemonhunters have inquisitors that have a retinue including mystics. Their ability isn't a psychic power either. The ability only has a range of 4d6 inches (14" on average) and while you may be pushed back a bit to avoid it, the mystics shouldn't alter your battleplan that much. The inquisitor with mystics will most likely be in the middle of his battleline, leaving his flanks unprotected (where you want to be anyway). Anyways. The list looks pretty good overall, other than the fact that has already been brought up- all drop pods is a pain in the ass when you go against an opponent that prevents the alpha strike you depend upon. I would drop the deathwinds on the drop pods for a conversion beamer on the MoTF, I think it's quite obvious which gun is more powerful. lol But I have to ask... where's telion and friends going? Are they going to be the only unit deployed on the table? Meaning that if your opponent gets first turn.. they will be shot with everything? Lastly, why the ironclads? Is the extra attack in CC really worth that extra 12" for the melta? Although this may just come down to preference tbh..

Elite: Dreadnought (2#, 180 pts)
. . 1 Dreadnought @ 180 pts (Unit Type: Vehicle (Walker); Searchlight; Smoke Launchers; Dreadnought CCW; Heavy Flamer; Assault Cannon; Drop Pod)
. . . . 1 Drop Pod (Deathwind Missile Launcher)
Pick up another tactical unit instead of all this. That dreads really does not have that much to offer. The added troop will help in the long hall to caputure objectives instead of having to really fight for them.

He has 4 troop choices. All of which are quite durable. He can't even get another tac squad for the points of the dread anyway. This is 2500 points. He needs to bring as many hammers as he possibly can. Otherwise he's bringing a pillow to a gunfight. lol. Tac squads may be surprisingly durable, but in terms of offensive capability, they are unfortunately lackluster. I also don't see why dropping his already low number of armor targets even lower will help the list 'in the long haul'. You need as many targets as possible, otherwise the few you have will get focus fired, and then the opponent gets to take care of the tac squads at his leisure later.

With this many drop pods the standard defensive of reserving everything isn't as effective. If my opponent does this I just drop all the tactical squads onto the objectives turn one instead of later with a two dreadnoughts to support them. Actually I love it when someone puts everything in reserves and say "ahh Haa!" it's not a very good defensive against a Drop Pod list in the first place. Also am not considered about Telion's Squad they will be deployed into cover and with the MoTF and camo cloaks they will have a +2 cover save.

Its only ruins that the MotF can bolster just so you know. Besides, anylist will be able to kill them with or without a +2 save if they are the only units on the board.
LOL about the comment about reserv not being a good defence vs this list...How is me pounding half your army with either 2/3 or 5/6 of my army not a good defence? Not to mention your troops now have zero mobility...

so "pounding" half my army with your whole army in reserves. So you army has zero chance to come on the board until turn two then you get a 3+ cause your Autarch. While I half my forces on turn one and would get to reroll 4+ on turn two... You don't have to move when you drop right on the objectives... again am not to worried about a bunch of Space Elves prancing around.

He needs as many targets on the board as he can? He is only going to be able to put so many dreas/troops on the board on the first turn. After that its a roll to see if they show up. Thus the needing as many targets is not valid because he can only deploy so many on the first turn to begin with.

Also note that he actually has 6 troop choices already. he listed 2 scout squads under the storm entries. He has another scout squad and 3 tactical squads.
I see that all the Tac squads are Flamer/ML. I might suggest giving 1 of those squads a Multimelta as you will be part way up the board to begin with. While it doesn't have the flexibility of the ML it is AP1 and can deal with enemy armor that gets close pretty well.
The other thing I noticed is that the Storm squads are all bare bones with a mix of BP/CCW and Shotguns. Givign the Sergeant a power fist or a Power weapon can add a bit of punch to them if they are meant to be an objective taker. Perhaps giving the Storms themselves a heavy flamer might be an options too as they it gets past their BS3.
Cheers,
~Volkan

I'll just pipe in that Tigerius is a pile of garbage. Without eternal warrior or FNP, he is the single easiest way that your opponent will drop you down to a 2300 points list. On top of all that, his contribution to the game is pretty questionable, especially if you do not know what turn he will be coming on the board.
At least with 'cheesestan', you get his bonuses even after he dies, or whether he shows up or not.
On another note, reserving absolutely works because they can bring their army in on a refused flank (all in one corner), and there is no way you can decide which when you deploy your drop pods. Make sure you plan for this in your playtesting.
|
Q: How many of a specific demographic group are required to carry out a simple task?
A: An arbitrary number. One to carry out the task in question, and the remainder to act in a manner stereotypical of the group.

Well his reserve reroll is the only reason I find he might be helpful which you can use on the board or not or alive or dead. The question is he worth using for that reroll for the huge point sink. Also I'll have 5 drop pod falling in turn one if I need to i.e. want to bring the psychic hood in to play I can land him turn one.
And how many characters do we got in Space Marines that have Eternal Warrior? Answer one Calgar. How many Characters do we got that has FNP? Answer two Scarius and Cassius... what is your point?

so "pounding" half my army with your whole army in reserves. So you army has zero chance to come on the board until turn two then you get a 3+ cause your Autarch. While I half my forces on turn one and would get to reroll 4+ on turn two... You don't have to move when you drop right on the objectives... again am not to worried about a bunch of Space Elves prancing around.
Ok, you seem to have it all figured out...Oh, If you get first turn it works just as well. I have more targets to choose from and can decide on which flank I want to enter and you will have dedicated more of your now "imobile" force and Ill have even less to worry about after that.
Anyway, no point in arguing with someone that "doesnt care about space elves" GOOOO SPEZZH MAHRINES right? If you win this ard boyz this will be the forth time in a row that a drop podding SM army wins right?

So the advice you came to my thread to give me is I should redo my list cause your Space Elves would trash me? OK thanks...If you don't mind go troll some other thread Automatically Appended Next Post: Volkan wrote:The other thing I noticed is that the Storm squads are all bare bones with a mix of BP/CCW and Shotguns. Givign the Sergeant a power fist or a Power weapon can add a bit of punch to them if they are meant to be an objective taker. Perhaps giving the Storms themselves a heavy flamer might be an options too as they it gets past their BS3.

I considered putting Heavy Flamers on the Storm I do have some extra points to play around with. My thought on a Power fist in a scout squad is it would make it more anti-tank if anything. Reason being if they are assaulting something that needs a powerfist that isn't a tank the squads so small and weak that the powerfist might not get a chance to swing. Same goes for the power weapon. The main role of scouts the way I use them is to either use the scout move to get off top of turn one assault on a tank (auto hits with meltabomb and kraks), assault anything GEQ, or if I can't they just use the storm mobility to capture or contest objectives.
