Since GW seems content on sticking meks in units where they are somwhat less then viable, I thought it would be cool to have a unit of meks. I like to think that young meks have to be "trained" a bit before they can properly fix some gubbins for da bosses. Obviously the best way to train young meks is to go to the place where stuff gets broken: Da Front! Here are my ideas.
Mek Squad Elite Choice
4 Meks and one Big Mek 100pts
Mek WS BS S T W I A Ld Sv
4 2 3 4 1 2 2 7 6+
Big Mek WS BS S T W I A Ld Sv
4 2 4 4 2 3 2 8 6+
Wargear:
Meks: Slugga, Choppa, and Shoota.
Big Mek: Choppa, Kustom Mega Blasta, and Mek's Tools
Options:
Up to two Meks may replace their Slugga, Choppa, or Shoota with:
Big Shoota 5pts
Rokkit Launcha 10pts
Kustom Mega Blasta 10pts
Burna 5pts
Mek's Tools Free
Any Mek with Mek's tools may take one
Grot Oiler 5pts
The Big Mek replace his choppa or Kustom Mega Blasta with one of the following:
T/L Shoota Free
Power weapon 15pts
Power Klaw 25pts
He may take any of the following:
Eavy Armor 5pts
Bosspole 5pts
Cybork Body 15pts
Special Rules: Furious Charge, Mob Rule, Waaagh!
Gimme an 'and 'ere!
When trying to fix somthing, the Big Mek may get the acolyte Meks to help him. Whenever the Big Mek makes a Mek's tools roll, you may add one to the roll for each mek in the unit that did not shoot. The meks then count as shooting. A roll of one always fails.
Ya stupid zog!
Failure is not an option when learning to be a mek. If any Mek's Tools roll made by the unit fails, the Big Mek in charge will become enraged, and smack the nearest mek over the head with a nearby tool, often fatally. The unit immediatly takes a wound. This may not be allocated to the Big Mek. If the Big Mek is the only model left, ignore this rule.

sounds pretty good except for the fact that 5 meks costs 100 points. That sounds like a bit of overkill to me...
The KMB should be about 10 points max, since in the lootas and burnas squad its free and in the deff kopta its 5 points.
But the idea sounds really cool, especially the "Gimme an 'and 'ere!"

Perhaps, but your getting a maximum of 3 repair rolls. All the meks don't have tools. Maybe add a rule that makes the novice meks worse at repairing than the big mek?

if you up the kostom mega blaster to 15 it would follow all points in a normal book and make the big mek upgrade for another 100pts would seem more like it, but to also turn around and give them sluggas for free??? their meks MAN!! every mek gets free tools and KMB for FREEEEE!!!!! not to mention they should get a suicide rule if they kill a vehicle to roll 3d6 for random movement to do the sheer ability in trucks to it.. that would be crazy fun

4 shoota boys and a nob with a KMB for 100 points?
(24)+20+15= what you get essentially. I enjoy what they can become with upgrades, but they seem to be paying for the right to get those upgrades.

I suggest either a cheaper starting points or better starting guns/stats. The upgrades work, its the base that falls short.

Perhaps, certainly fits with the fluff. You'll want them to be less than KMBs and yet not clash with any other gun. Also, while I think of it, something that makes KMBs more fun to take might also help this unit.

How about this being a retinoue for a Big Mek? I think that would fit the fluff and the rules, as the yong `uns follow the Big Mek around to learn their skill.

Adding as a retinue option seems a much more delectable solution, as it would be competing for an elite slot which is already a tough choice to give up with what we already have.

Hi all.
I realy like the idea of the old Mek boy Tinbot units.
The Mek boy might not be able get any pilots for his Killa Kans.(The warboss may have had to clear some mine fields causing a grot shortage.) Or not have enough gubbinz to build finish Killa Kan skwad.
So they make the Ork sized robots called Tinbotz!
EG
Mekboy with Mek tools , 'Eavy armour ,Slugga and Kontrol Box.(20 pts)
3 to 5 Tinbotz with the following profile.
WS 3/BS3/S4/T5/I 1/A 1/ Ld - Sve 3+. 25 pts
Weapons Dakka Gunz, Power Klaw.
The Mek boy has to keep the Tinbotz in LOS ,or he can not 'Kontrol' them.
If the Mek boy is killed the Tinbotz count as destroyed, (unless re-activated by another Mekboy with a Kontrol Box).
The Mekboy has the Tinbotz under control most of the time , however somtimes they malfunction....
At the start of the turn roll a D6 for each TinBotz mob.
Tinbotz malfunction chart.
1 Gyro faliure!The Tinbotz move in a random direction in the movement AND shooting phase.
2 to 5. Workin 'Proper! the Tinbotz are under Mek boy Kontrol.
6 , Targeting overide! The Tinbotz do not move ,but fire at the closest unit ,in the shooting phase. (friend or foe.)
After carfully recalibrating the Kontrol box,(hitting it with a big hammer!), the Mek boy regains Kontrol of the tinbotz for next turns roll.(Malfunctions do not carry over to the next game turn.)
Just an idea for a fun unit to use in freindly games , if you want to.

How about they can be like wolfguard Pack Leaders where each mek in the unit has an option of being deployed as part of any Boyz, Nobz, Lootaz, Burnaz, or Tank Huntaz mob? Also if this is put into effect they should each have Mek Tools to fix transports. So its kind of like having an Iron Priest in every squad.

What *would* be nice would be if they let Nob/Meganobs be taken as Ork Retinues aside from also being their own unit. Same with Meks for a Big Mek...
