Nottingham (yay!)

I know full well that the GW stock response is We can't account for every situation that may occur, so we're not even going to try to account for situations that will occur in a third of all games played. Players should come to a consensus amongst themselves, not rely on us to write comprehensive rulebooks - if someone feels they've been hard done by when everyone decides to bully them into accepting an interpretation that nerfs their centrepiece unit, simply call them mardy and ostracise them from your gaming group. You should have got the hint when we stopped doing GT's that we've abandoned all pretence of balance and basic editing, you cash cows. Now, who wants more plastic Space Marine kits? Remember, tell your parents it's a creative hobby and they'll buy you the lot, and you can always sell the army for a fraction of its shop price a month later when you get back into Pokémon. So, I don't expect the eventual FAQ to even come close to resolving the massive amounts of vagueness in the Codex.

But even so, right now I'm just using the Codex as inspiration for my hobbycraft and only even remotely thinking about Apoc games. You know, so that the much-vaunted Reserve unit combos might actually work in more than a quarter of the games I play.

Erm, my reason for not playing isn't that I think I'll get hammered. It's that there's so much vagueness I can just hear the endless arguments now...

Exactly, grow a pair and learn how to circumvent arguments by reviewing issues with your opponent before the game. Seriously, how hard is it to understand that the players determine how the game is played?

Because I love building a list and then having to re-negotiate the rules with every person I play against.

All out of witty one-liners.

I find it best to compromise or just play it at a disadvantage (unless the rules being argued are completely ridiculous, like Mawlocs no being able to DS onto enemies which makes him useless).

But, for example with the Mawloc again, does the TFtD give cover saves? I dont think so, but who knows? So I just say its a 5+ cover save until an answer is given.

Play with better opponents.

I played the whole of Platinum Devil 2010 with my new Tyranids army against players some of whom had never played against Nid before.

We all had a great time because we weren't arseholes.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

It's a game. So when ever a new codex comes out you are not going to use it? What if you use your other army that is not Tyranids and your opponet uses Tyranids then? What are you going to do? Not play?

What about BA? Look at Gwar's FAQ for that one. Lots of things in their that seem to confuse alot of people or get people up in arms, or disagree. What about the next 40K codex? You not going to play it as well? What about the next edtion?

So you see, it dosn't matter what codex it is, people will always disagree about it. Remeber an FAQ is not official either so if someone is going to be a Dink, or an Ahole, they don't have to agree to the FAQ either.

So just discuss to your opponent what you think needs FAQ'ed before the game starts and have fun. After all, you paid and painted and put together your army, so enjoy them. Don't worry what others think, just go out and play. There are plenty of FAQs out there and people are still Aholes about it.

FAQ or no FAQ, you will find Aholes no matter what. So enjoy your Tyranids and don't worry about a FAQ.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?

Man I used to love the Daria cartoon

That being said, its annoying as all get out I know. I play Orks, and the Orks dex has/had so many holes in the damn thing that arguments happen in every turn, on almost anything. Shoot half the codex is written in a matter where if you pause in the wrong spot while reading, the rules outcome can mean something totally different. Luckily they are FINALLY (only took what 2 years?) getting most of those hammered out.

Your just going to have to talk the problems out with your opponent first hand, and if your at a game store or a tourny, talk it out with the organizers/judges pre game. That way there isnt ANY problems. Besides, whats wrong with you people that you cant argue points? You live and learn, and sometimes your even right

Nid player here...I resolve issues with other players before the game starts...problem solved.

As long as you aren't playing against TFG most players are reasonable when it comes to interpretations of the rules.

Nids do have more than a few rules that are clear as mud right now but for friendly games just go over any questions with an opponent before hand. The store I play at actually brings rules questions up for a vote until a FAQ comes out.

I could see it being a bigger problem for tourneys if they do not have a FAQ covering it because you could spend half the game arguing over rules.

I'm not using any of the contested stuff: no Mawlocs, no Doom, no off-table Reserves modifiers.

It's solely about reducing arguments. I'm playing a game of toy soldiers for fun; I don't need to start any game with disagreements over the basic uses of my units, thanks.

The nid codex is woefully underpowered compared to the SW codex, the IG codex and the BA codex, and all my of opponents tend to play the ambiguous rules in favor of the nids for that reason.

If they are going to be TFG about it, they are going to be TFG regardless of what the FAQ says

THE HORUS HERESY: Emprah: Hours, go reconquer the galaxy so there can be a new golden age. Horus: But I should be Emprah, bawwwwww! Emprah: Magnus, stop it with the sorcery. Magnus: But I know what's best, bawwwwww! Emprah: Horus, tell Russ to bring Magnus to me because I said so. Horus: Emprah wants you to kill Magnus because he said so. Russ: Fine. Emprah's always right. Plus Ole Red has already been denounced as a traitor and I never liked him anyway. Russ: You're about to die, cyclops! Magnus: O noes! Tzeentch, I choose you! Bawwwww! Russ: Ah well. Now to go kill Horus. Russ: Rowboat, how have you not been doing anything? Guilliman: . . . I've been writing a book. Russ: Sigh. Let's go. Guilliman: And I fought the Word Bearers! Horus: Oh shi--Spess Puppies a'comin? Abbadon: And the Ultramarines, sir. Horus: Who? Anyway, this looks bad. *enter Sanguinis* What are you doing here? Come to join me? Sanguinius: *throws self on Horus's power claws* Alas, I am undone! When you play Castlevania, remember me! *enter Emprah* Emprah: Horus! So my favorite son killed my favorite daughter! Horus: What about the Lion? Emprah: Never liked her. Horus: No one does. Now prepare to die! *mortally wounds Emprah*Emprah: Au contraire, you dick. *kills Horus* Dorn: Okay, now I just plug this into this and . . . okay, it works! Emprah? Hellooooo? Jonson: I did nothing! Guilliman: I did more nothing that you! Jonson: Nuh-uh. I was the most worthless! Guilliman: Have you read my book? Dorn: No one likes that book. Khan: C'mon guys. It's not that bad. Dorn: I guess not. Russ: You all suck. Ima go bring the Emprah back to life.

Nids are not doing well around here either. At first everyone thought it was just nid players trying to get used to all the big changes but even solid and good players that just picked nids up are having a lot of trouble with them. Nids are very unforgiving now to say the least and most have dropped them already for their old armies or BA. On the bright side there is a lot of cheap nid stuff for sale for those of us sticking it out with them.

This sounds exactly like what I was hearing about them in 4th ed as people slowly started realizing that it wasn't their list compositions or lack of experience. The Tyranid army was seemingly built to lose games. Very, very disappointing to hear that this wasn't dealt with in 5th... Well, there's always 6th edition I guess.

I've actually come across the exact opposite. My tyranids certainly aren't trashing other armies, but I'd hesitate to call them underpowered by any stretch. I would call them unforgiving; the army does not recover from mistakes well at all, while most marine armies have a large margin for error.

However, I am avoiding certain units until a FAQ, not because I'm afraid of conflict with other players... I just got sick of the arguments before every game on what did what. So when my mawloc only works properly half the time, he's going to go in disguise as a Trygon Prime until his issues get addressed. Other points are minor, with only the Hive Tyrant's status when attached to his guard coming up with any frequency.

If you like the army, play em. I assure you even if the codex is underpowered, people will still call your MCs cheap or broken.
