Subject: Nurgle apothecaries?

Nurgle Veteran Marine with the Flu

I'm adding on to my current nurgle-themed " The Purge" army. They don't have a lot of fluff but I'm interpreting them as nurgle-worshipping renegades that are into biochemical/engineered disease warfare. To show this in my army I'd like some apothecaries (which act like bio-engineers/researchers in most chapters when not on the field or when specifically placed in research labs to develop better implants/etc). I think the idea of a few corrupted apothecaries as champions in some of my squads would be fitting and something I don't see very often.
My main problem is whether to use the official GW model for apothecaries (metal as far as I can tell, and a bit old in their styling), sanguinary priests(newer model and I could use the blood chalice as a chalice full of disease/bile that either stimulates my own troops or poisons the enemy), convert a techmarine(adding on Narthecium/Reductor bits or making my own), fabius bile(not the torso/head but mainly his backpack+syringe), or GS my own somehow.
The other issue is how exactly to paint them and in what ways would a chaos apothecary be different from a loyalist counterpart. Possibly additional syringes/poisons to increase his combat potency and harm rather than heal, but while still retaining the ability to save gene-seed from fallen brothers and to deliver a killing blow to those about to die. I want to keep the white scheme with small bits of black/green to tie him to nurgle/chapter colors.
Old model #2:
New sanguinary priest showing reductor/narthecium and other bits that make the apothecary stand out:
reverse of sanguinary priest that shows off the neat medi-pack they carry that I want to mimic or borrow:
Would probably corrupt the helix image and make the reductor look a bit more wicked if I chose to simply use the GW apothecary/sang priest. It is simply a lot of imperial symbols to deface/file off, but they are renegades so maybe leaving them on and defacing them wouldnt be too difficult.
Let me know what you think and if you have any ideas on how to make this easier/better feel free to post em.

Boosh.
I'm not sure what you're booshing exactly...

I already considered that set, but if I went the fabius bile route I'd simply get his model and harvest the bits. The downside to the bits pack is I don't have any real use for the fallen angel backpacks(that I still pay for) and it doesn't have his syringe to chop off and use. The biggest reason I didn't instantly choose to use fabius as a base was because the chirurgeon causes the model wearing it to lose the apothecary look and doesn't seem like what the average renegade apothecary would be equipped with.
He's still in the running, but it isn't a slam dunk by any means.

Honestly, unless you do a large amount of scratch-built stuff, you're not going to find a closer match to a chaos apothecary than Fabius.
Have you considered the Forge World Nurgle Conversion sets for plague marines with the Fabius Backpacks? That would look quite cool.

Have you considered purchasing the plastic apothecary bits from the Space Marine Command Squad?
And applying them to a suitably nurgly marine that you have made? And then just using some plasticard piping to make the needles?

Boosh.

The chirurgeon backpack is from the Fabius Bile pack. It's a backpack and two tool arms that he uses to modify his marines. If you ignore all the backpacks with the skeletons on then the rest of the bits make up the Fabius Bile parts and it looks pretty good on a chaos marine, I've tried it.

Can I suggest skipping forward 10 years to the age where you don't really care about what people say on the internet. Studies show that it decreases your anger about life in general by 37%. - Flashman |

Its a cool idea, but just sorta strange since fabius bile is really the only chaos apothecary

A Chaos Apothecary namely a Nurgle one would spread rot and disease rather than save people.Their are plenty of bits out there and a really good Nurgle Sorceror on Forgeworld for a really good reasonable price..
I would personally kit bash that model the pose and the look fits it well..

Fabius bile is by no means the only chaos apothecary, he is just the only one mentioned in the codex.
A chapter of nurgle marines with a passion for the study and creation of diseases is a rather novel concept I have never actually thought of before, scientists rather than soldiers...
Might have to steal that idea

I know there's a plastic SM command squad box, and it comes with bits to make an apothecary.
Try bitzbarn.com or bitz andkitz.co.uk or just search for bits sellers online. Plastic is a lot easier to convert, and you should be able to buy a fair few of the aproppriate arms/backpacks for the price of one metal model.

I got some interesting looking dark angels apothecary bits from the swapshop to use for my apothecaries. The purge chapter I'm building my army around is a bit less organic and a bit more chemical/industrial in their nurgle worship so they should work out just fine.
I'll explain it again why Fabius bile is neither the obvious choice nor the only choice for a chaos apothecary. The version of the "the purge" chapter (linked above) I'm using is one that has only recently fallen and thus still retains many of their imperial gear with little mutation. That is why a normal loyalist apothecary would be one of the top choices for this purpose. Deface or remove the imperial symbols and make some small GS additions to his overall look and he should work perfectly for the prototype. If he works out well I'll get some more. If not I may pick up the fabius model.
