Hi to all,I just bought my first box of troops yesterday and was wondering if anyone has some tips for a beginner.
For example:how to equip the little buggers? Lasers or else? What i should have and what i should avoid like the plague? I would be glad also if someone posted a list of 1000 points or so just to have some ideas what to buy next. Also i'd like to build a vostroyan regiment,is it reasonable or do i have to be billionaire to just think of it?I know there are probably gazillions of other threads with the answers to my questions but time is a tyrant so....Thanx to all for the answers

Troops without a codex is not a very wise decision. If you don't have one already then let that be your next purchase.

in general, there are three major types of guard: air cavalry, mechanized, and human wave. What you equip your troops with will depend on what list strategy you're employing. Every list needs to be able to cover the fundamentals (being able to kill space marine infantry, AV14 vehicles, et.), and the way you build your list for this purpose depends on your style.

Otherwise, we can just give you some general tips like "quantity over quality" and "redundancy over versatility". To give you more specific advice, we're going to need an army list.

Consider any upgrade except guns very carefully. Even gun upgrades, think about how much use you will get from them compared to buying more vehicles and men.

Aside from that, as Ailaros says, read the codex, come back with an idea of what units you like.

Eldar Corsairs: 4000 pts
Imperial Guard: 4000 pts

Corregidor 700 pts
Acontecimento 400 pts

you can never go wrong with Russes, a different type for each situation and AV14

Or go for Chenkov and say 100 respawning conscripts!
