Hey there. This is the first time I've posted my Orky stuff here of Dakka Dakka. I'm mostly browsing all sneaky-like and stealing all your well thought up plans and ideas
I do have a few photos up on my own website, that I run with my wife and some mates around the world, and we have a modeling section. I'll try and be a bit more posty here, seeing as I keep getting the Pm telling me that my activity is lax every few months, but the majority of my painting updates will be over on the Forums of Ultima-Java.

Anywho, here's a few images.

This is a trukk that was converted for the Sunshine Coast conversion Contest 2008, QLD, Australia. It won the competition and I walked away with a nice big box of converty bitz! It's been converted out of a Trukk, and pieces from a Space Marine Land Speeder, while the tarp over the top is scratch made using girders from the building kits, and of all things kitchen roll. The tarp is actually removable, but it looks better this way.

Recently the Trukk had an accident in which the wrekkin' ball fell off... that's fine though, I'm going to remove the plastic chain and add an actual chain so the ball is swinging free!

There are so many things I love about the orks. Their back stories, the clans, their ramshackle vehicles, the possibilities for conversions, but I think after all this stuff that got me interested, the shiny cherries that kept me hooked were infact the runts of the litter.

These are my squigs, they aren't actually a squad of course, but they act as attack squigs and squig hounds for my army.

And now the grots. I was so happy whent he plastic grots came out. Though after finding out they were all solid cast pieces, with little to no customization ability beyond the paint jobs... I admit I was a little disappointed. Not to worry though, I still love them! Back int he old GorkaMorka game, the grots weren't a subservient race (as such) but instead many of them were united as a separate and free group under the Red Gobbo. I like the Rebel Grots, and as such I wanted to incorporate that into my army. So I wrote into my back story about how the Grots one their freedom. Then I was faced with the Red Gobbo as an example... knowing that I couldn't keep up a conversion system to make all the Grots look Russian, I decided to go for a different theme...

...Braveheart!

I found myself very busy over the past few months, but since all that has blown over, I've stopped and got stuck in to my painting, finally cracking open my box of Ork Nobs, and in the process painting up and taking photos of my boyz. As well as putting the finishing touches on that Trukk from above and building a Battle Wagon.

The Snap-fit Boyz from Black Reach (or some of them at least) being led by a snap fit Nob. This nob is the one in my Avatar, but from a different shot, that I took over a year ago. The nob for this squad is named Gutzdreg.

This is my first completed Nob from the Nobs malti-park kits. I'm very happy with the results. His name is Duffgrod!

Finally my Battle Wagon.

I must point out though, this is by far NOT what it looks like at the moment. I had a funny back story for this, and a reason behind the insane colour scheme, there was even going to be Pepsi logos all over it. Nevermind, maybe for a Racing truck I've been planning. Anyway, I decided that the colours weren't Blood Axey enough, and so I've given the whole thign a new paint job, as well as a bunch of conversions. I'll have pics of that up soon.

Hope you like, and if you want to see more pics of my stuff please check them out on the UJ Forums. The modeling section may be invisible to non-registered users, as it's in the creative section and we want to keep our artworks and written works away from people who might want to steal said works. Hope you take a look anyway.

EDIT: Holy crap... sorry about the size of the images, we have a thumbnailer on UJ, and an automatic resizer, I forgot how big the images were. I can get smaller ones in future if that's required.

Very awesome! I love the electricity on the Trukk! The rest is great too. I am on my lunch break, so i can't comment on all the things I like, so here is a list of win, IMO:
Camo on Nob
Shading on big choppa
Ork hide highlighting
designs like checks and caution stripes

Keep on Rockin'!

Thanks man, really appreciate the kind words

I've been busy the past few days at Supanova Comic Con in Brisbane, so I haven't done any more work on my Orks. However, I'll be sure to get some more done soon.

Well, at first I was like, DUDE THOSE PICS ARE HUGE, but then I realized that it showed all of the little details you added. I love the paint jobs, and I hope to see more of your work in the future.

"I.. I know my time has come" Tethesis said with a gasp, a torrent of blood flowing from his lips.
"No! Hang on brother!!" Altharius could feel the warmth slip away from his dear sibling's hands

Tethesis's reached out his bloodied arm to Altharius's face.
"I..I have one final request"
Altharius leaned close to listen, tears welling in his once bright eyes.
"make sure th..they put my soulstone in a tank... it'll be... real fethin' cool"
"Yes, you're gonna be the most fethin' cool tank!!" burning hot tears streaked down Altharius's face, as he held his brother's soul in his grasp.

I have my own server so wouldn't want to waste my extrordinarally limited upload/download limit by having to upload these sizely images more than once. The request about the image sizes was directed mostly at a moderator, although obviously I should have pointed that out. I wouldn't want to do the uploading through online resizing programs, I don't trust them to save the detail. If I were to resize them I'd resize them myself to make sure that the detail was retained.

Thanks, after uploading them and realizing their size I was a liuttle concerned about how big they were, but I did discover that by making them smaller i loose a lot of the brush strokes and style to the bluring and resampling.

Thanks to you all though for commenting, I'll be sure that in future, that I get smaller ones sent up to my server for this site. Now it's all about finding time to do more painting

All the images are broken at the moment due to me going through the server and resizing all the images. When they come back up on here they will be a much more manageable size, and I've even gone in an fixed the contrasting, and colours tones on most of the pics.

They'll be back up soon enough and I'll post some more when I'm done!

I recently had a big falling out with the current edition Warhammer 40,000 Rule book and posted a big long rant on my forums, about how I was going to ignore the rules for now, and just paint and model my army the way I see fit, then once I have got the look that I want. I'm more of a model maker than a player these days anyway.

Basically I stated that I was going to go by the way orks were treated in the older generations. Where all the clans had different rules and different units, so i got hold of the Rogue Trader Army books "WAAARGH!! Da Orks!" and "'ERE WE GO!", aand I had forgotten about all the diversity that they actually had, and all the units that have since been removed from the rules. It made me a little sad fo be honnest.

Anyway, I'm nopt going to go into it here, as this is a Warhammer Forum and I'm sure you don't want me ranting on about it. If you are interested in reading my post you can find it here: http://forum.ultima-java.com/viewtopic.php?f=199&t=749

So with freedom in mind, and a Blood Axe army in the heart, I took a look at my army and suddenly it all fell into place. I knew what I wanted to do and how I wanted to do it!

All Nobs in my army will be acompanied by a grot carrying his boss' family banner, with the family insignias, and his name written on it somewhere in ork glyphs. i am reintroducing Big Bosses, even though they have no current rules, a Big Boss would simpley be the Nob that leads the Nobs Squad. Big Bosses and Warbosses in the Army would be accompanied by Human slaves or "Konsultants". These would just count as another Nob, or maybe in some cases a Doc. Some nobs standard squad nobs might also have Human "Konsultants" and they would just be a member of the squad. BigMeks and Spanna Boyz might have Servitor helpers or human mechanics.

As goes the backstory of my orks the Grots escaped into the wilderness long ago, and although some remained as slaves, eventually the orks stopped caring about the wild grots. Then one day one of the Freegrot Tribes attacked an ork settlement, and completely devastated it. Gorbad Grimgor, was there at the time, before his rise to power and never forgot the Grots that did this. Though he would never admit it, he respects the leader of the grots, and though he'll never treat them as equals, he also doesn't treat them as slaves. They are his lesser equipped and weedy allies. As such Runtherderz, are a thing of the past in my army, however the rules state that there has to be a Runthurder for every 10 grots, so insted I'm going to try to get hold of some of the old Epic platic stompas, I had a few hanging around somewhere, so I'll add them to my grot squads, as old Rogue Trader Grotbots.

Finally although I liked the attitude of the Yoofs, there's no mini that would accuratly portray them today, so instead of trying, I'm just adding the attitude, and using some bits from the Biker mobs, and bits from other mobs, as well as sculpting some of my own parts, I'll be making a group of "Punk boyz" rebelious Orks that oppose the authoritarian structure of bigger = better, and wears bright purple and pink Cammo, as well as being a bit "retro-futuristically fashionable" (A term I use to mean, what people during the 60s and 70's thought fashion would look like in the future). Think Back to the Future 2. As such any ork thats wearing gogles will be wearing blue and red lensed goggles to look like they are wearing 3D glasses!

I'm ultimately not hoping for a unique Army, but instead an army that I personally am happy with, and something that actually coresponds with the way clans were intended back when they were first invented.

Personally I find it all a bit biased that only Space Marines get different units depending upon their chapter, while for the rest of the armies, the only thing that changes is the colour scheme.

Anway thats enough of that babbling, now on to some minis.

The choppas squad are lead by the Nob Gutzdreg, and he being my first nob, has become the first to have a banner made. However I didn't use a runt like I was talking about above, I though it would be more interesting for this squad to have a banner, held by a boy.

Here he is! I have to be honnest though I'm not happy with the way the photo came out. To look at he's not all that different from the other orks, but for soem reason he looks all shiny and glossy in this pic.

He could probably do with some further highlighting in the future, but like I said before I'm going to tone down my painting detail so that I can get more orks done quicker.

The background represents the mobs chosen colours, the border represents the squad colours, the logo, is the Family Crest, in this case a single choppa with three drips of blood. then you have the character specific glyphs down the right hand side. For those who can't read Ork, that glyphs read "Nob Gutzdreg". The glyph that looks like a gun is the symbol for "Nob" Which is his rank. The "V" at the top is added because Blood Axes, add Imperial symbols to their banners even though they don't understand the meaning.

I do have some more to add, but I'll do that in the future, as I have discovered, on my forum, that a lot of images in a single post and then multiple large posts like that, fill up a thread with images that takes an age to load. So I'm needing to practice at posting lots of little posts with only a few images. That way there are less images on a single page. The last thing I want to do is spam this place up like I have my own site

More images can be found there, if you are interested in looking, I'm sure you know where to find the link.

I did promise them so here ya go

Please note the Wagon still isn't finished. I'm quite a slow painter and tend to jump around from one project to the next.

I have tried to reign myself in recently, and I'm going to dedicate myself to one project and stick to it. The first one being Bigboss Zogob's Nobz Mob. Up in the first post you can see a member of this squad in the form of Duffgrod. For the sake of squad variation I've made some changes to Duffgrod, repainting his shirt black, and as such the rest of the mob will be painted the same. I've already started on them and the development images are on UJ, but I will be sure to post the finished pieces here.

For future reference, my intentions are to post only the completed miniaturs here, so as not to over spam you guys with images, but if you are interested int he development and WIP images they will be on my forum, and I'll gladly post them on request.

Probably not, as I posted above, I've kinda become disallusioned with the current rules, it's too far removed from the customizations of old, where as the Space Marine poster boys have loads of updates and upgraded based upon their different chapters, where as Orkish tribes have been long forgotton.

Orks should be just as, or even more diverse than Space Marines with their ramshackle vehicles, and their cobbled together army of anyone they can find. Yet they all have the same miniatures, it dioesn't matter what tribe you play as it's all the same rules. You know in the olden days, Blood Axes were unique because not only could they take imperial guard units in their army, but they were the only Ork Clan to be able to ally with the Imperium.

Anywho ranting aside, I intend playing these guys as an old style army, actually including imperial guard units too, so looks like it'll just be used for games against opponants that allow the slight rule alterations.

It's a number of layers of dry brushing ontop of black, followed by a full body wash of Devlan mud. Then 1:1 watered down badab black in the recesses.

The drybrushing was done with a tank brush.

then it was just a case of adding other details in black. I went with flicks in this one but I'm thinking that I might go for somethign else entirly for the next one.

Bojour ya'll!

Much quicker than usual, seeing as this one was already partially painted, I give you all Gorbog, the current leader of the Nobz mob until I can get a model to represent Gorbog! I love the way the skar came out on his eye, however once again the photo has made him look a little shiny and the quality doesn't look that good. However I can assure you he does look a lot better painted in person.

Still there is something a little bland about this guy, I doesn't shape up to his peers.

Its missing the ratio of yellow.

Perhaps some danger stripes on the bottom of tabard will change the blandness.

I think you might be right there, however rather than changing the tabbard, I'm thinking that I may attach an armour plate to his right leg (his right our left), and paint that up with the danger stripes.

On another note, I got my Nazgrub Wurrzag in the mail thismorning after winning it at auction on eBay.

I was shocked to find that he's a lot smaller than I remembered.

Only around the size of an average ork rather than that of a Nob like I was hoping. I always remembered him to be bigger, but the other orks were also a lot smaller.

Anywho, I'm still going to use him as a nob or a Looter Character, just need to get a copy of his rules. I hear they are in White Dwarf 218 and possibly in the Digga Nob suppliment.

If anyone is able to help me out with the rules and such I would very much appreciate it.

I agree about the customizing side to the ORks. They are rather bland as far as that goes......kindda reminds me of the CSM thing. They made some incredibly cool and original minis for Orks back in the day.

Your Orks are this side of awesome man. I too found that doing many layers of drybrushing makes painting vehicles ALOT easier. Somehow the layers just add up to a nice finish in the end. BUT Im about to re-paint my horde so Im probably going to be getting rid of my nice chrome and yellow vehicles, I just might steal your way of painting the vehicles. Very nice work.

Also you got any tips on hazard stripes? Yours are holy cow good. Mine always seem unsteady

Made in au
Yellin' Yoof

Land of Queens, Australia

My hazard stripes are pretty basic really when you find out how I did them.

A lot of people I know use a yellow base and put the black over the top, I do it the other way around, using a black base and using Iyanden Darksun over the top to do the stripes. It's a case of being very careful with the lines really. I then layer from Golden yellow up to Sunburst yellow. put a 1:1 watered down wash of Gryphonne Sepia, over the bottom half of it, followed by a second when it dries. Finally for the yellow, work in some watered down golden yellow, to blend into the wash if it leaves a solid change in shading. Highlighting is Sunburst Yellow 1:1 with Bleached Bone.

This is where you go back to the black. All you use the black for is touchign up where the yellow may have over lapped or come out wonky. Highlighting to the black (when I highlight the black... sometimes I can be real lazy) is a gradual blend up from black to codex grey.

I don't really have a particularly good example of this, but if you want I could have a go at a tutorial for you.

As for the drybrushing, the only warning I can give is if the minis have already been previously painted, the build up may come off a bit thick, is some cases it;s a better idea to strip the model first, and it's a lot easier to get away with this with the larger minis like tanks.

hey all,

I just want to appologise that I haven't had anything new up on here in a while. unfortunately thats a trend that's likely to continue as my camera has sufferent a major case of deadness. I have a camera on my phone or of my DSi but I'm not going to get the sort of quality that I want out of them, so I'll probably not bother wasting mine or your time by posting them here and staking up space.

I may from time to time post stuff on UJ, and when I get a new camera(not going to be any time soon) I'll do a quick recap of the stuff I've done in the mean time.

Thanks for all the support so far,a nd I hope I can get something usable soon.

Ciao for now!
