Hi,
in another thread, some people showed interest in having Space Marine helmets with Roman style crests.
Today, "Secret Weapon" has released conversion bits to make exactly that:
http://www.secretweaponminiatures.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=23&products_id=65
It is their first conversion kit. Otherwise they are mostly known for bases.

The greys look awesome, their show off paint one needs to be redone, I instantly frowned a little on what looks like a good product.

That's pretty cool. Already made my own out of Dire Avenger helmets awhile back, or this would be something I'd have to get.

I think I would like them better if they were 5 matching ones on a single sprue and have 4 or 5 diffrent types of sprues. I like my squads to be matching. Unless of course they will sell them as bags of 5 or 10 of all the same style.
They do look good.

Those are pretty dope, I must say. And I was just thinking to myself yesterday, "You know, I could really use some Roman crests for my SM's helmets."

As a personal preference (variant) I'd have cut the hair mount that attached to the helmet down by at least a half as it looks too exagerated on the raised bit the helet comes modeled with.

Traditionally, only Greek officers wore crests, where as the standard Roman infantry wore them as well as officers.

That's why they're often called "Roman" crests, because the imagery of the Roman soldier includes it, unlike the imagery of the Greek soldier.

That said, the Plumes were more used for Parades than in combat.

Eh I like the idea and have especially attempted it myself but not too fond of the execution personally the ideal of what I keep trying at is

Sicarius' model gets it close but it's way to high off the helmet and a tad too big

for the forward crest I think the ultramarines honor guard chapter champion has the right size and lift from the head

I keep trying to replicate it with mixed results though.

Platuan - I think you have that backwards. Crests were very common among the Greek Hoplites.

In art, yes. But the actual helmets most Greeks wore lacked them, where as the standard Roman Galea helmet had a nub for attaching a crest during parades.

Greek Corinthian Helm:

Roman Galea Helm:

Notice that thing on top? That's where the crest attaches.

I don't doubt the Roman officers wore crests - either on the parade grounds or not. The common soldier would have worn feathers during the Republic or horse hair plumes up through the time of JC.

As for the Greeks - I'll let you take it up with Connolly and tell him he's doing it wrong.
