I've been long resisting the call of the Space Marine, but there's just something about power armor that I love. Having been working with a lot of metal models with my daemons army, I also really wanted something that was primarily plastic as it's much more enjoyable to assemble and customize. And with the lovely new Blood Angels models(and I like the Sanguinary nipples, it's patterned after Roman armor, after all) I decided to put together a Blood Angels army. So here's the first(of many more to come) of Captain Baracus' Blood Angels Company.

For my Librarian, I took the Tigurius model and filed off all of the Ultramarines symbols. He's an awesome model, and for some reason I had him lying around:

Here's a Razorback with the twin-linked heavy flamer option. Yes, I know they're flamestorm turrets but they look pretty cool. Not sure if I'll keep it as is, though...those fuel tanks are awfully exposed. I'll also be adding BA iconography once I get my brass icons from FW and crack open my Baal kits.

Here's my first 5 Death Company models. I've magnetized the packs so I can switch between jump packs and backpacks depending on the list. I'll be doing the same for my assault marines and honor guard.

I'll post more as I build and paint!

nice! i like the flamestorm cannons...though might be better if you used the razorback housing and attached one fuel tank to the back of the turret.

The housing won't fit over the cannons, I tried. I might try the heavy flamers once I open up my Baal kit and see if they'll fit underneath.

Bases are from Forgecraft. They make really nice, affordable bases, and their castings are top notch...very few air bubbles.

Wow, very nice. Can you direct me to where you got those magnets from?

I get my magnets from K&J Magnetics, which is located in the US. I believe they ship internationally, but I don't know how much extra they charge.

In case you're wondering specifics, I use 1/8 x 1/32 rare earth magnets in the torsos and backpacks, and 1/8 x 1/16 magnets in the jump packs...those seem to fit the best for the parts involved.

Your models look great, especially with those bases. Are you going to build up your entire army, or paint first?

I like how you magnetized the packs. I should try that.

I love that you complained about metal models and then the first model you posted was a metal one ;-)

looking good DB!

Brilliant idea on the magnetisation of the backpacks.

Thanks for all the compliments from everyone! I've got a few individual responses:

@G3spoon: I'm probably going to build everything first and then turn to painting, especially as I'm still painting up my chaos daemons. Also, that way I can get to some playtesting without the confusion of "counts as."

@Somnicide: I know, ironic, huh? And it's also a testament to my complaints about metal models...it took me forever to file off all those damned Ultramarines symbols, and then greenstuff over a couple of areas on the robes. If he'd been plastic, those symbols would have been super quick to cut off.

@Waagh_Gonads: The whole magnetization idea really came out of the utility of the Blood Angels being able to remove their packs. I want to be able to run both mechanized and deep striking lists, and magnetizing is much cheaper and less time consuming that buying, assembling and painting twice as many models!

If I was really going to be efficient and thrifty, I'd also magnetize arms so I can swap weapon loadouts at will. But that's taking it just a little too far for me(plus I'd also need a ton more shoulderpads at that point, and no, I am not going to start magnetizing shoulder pads to arms!)

I decided to put together my Sanguinary Guard next so I could also get a good idea of what extras I'd have for customizing my RAS and tacticals. I really loved the kit...the minis are gorgeously detailed, though I can understand if they're not to everyone's tastes. By the way, after all of the complaints about nipples on the armor, it turns out only two of the torsos are nipplefied.

As the kit only came with 5 of the Sanguinary-specific shoulder pads, I didn't do any magnetization of the left arms. I gave one of them an inferno pistol, and another the chapter banner. I did, however, magnetize one of the torsos so that I could swap between a power fist and a power weapon.

Wow, those bits really look great. Those swords especially are sweet. If you get a chance would you mind posting some pics from the back? I'd like to see the jump packs.

As requested, here's some more! Not that much, though...just a rear shot of one of the Sanguinary Guard to show the jump pack. Also note the chalice pattern on the bottom of the boots! I've also included a WIP of a Furioso dread with the frag cannon. Enjoy!

Let me know your thoughts on the frag cannon...there's no pics or model of an "official" weapon, so I was just putting together what I thought was cool.

Concerning the Dead, he looks good but I always imagined the Frag cannon as some big double barreled shell launcher almost like the one from Unreal tournament (the flack cannon) This is just my opinion but I think if you reverse it and have it kind of underslung it will look more balanced and better. Again my opinion.

Love what you did with the rest of your army so far keep up the good work.

@ Vlad Von Carstein: I'll be modeling up a death company dread with blood talons at some point...but I want to put together my librarian dread first.

Plus, I should really model up some of my troops so I can actually put together a legal list!

@ Gretar: Here's a partial list of what I'll be building. It's not based off a specific army list, it's just units that I know I'll either want to play or try.

Reclusiarch
Mephiston
Corbulo
Lemartes
Honour Guard
3x Assault Squads
2x Baal Predators
Stormraven
Rifleman dreadnought

And of course, Captain Baracus!

hey i think the frag cannon is okay...maybe give it some bigger barrels? if anything i'd chop up the elbow and reposition the arm so that its bend a bit so the recoil doesnt dislocate his shoulder joint

The cannon looks way to big unless the model is going to be evened out with THE BIGGEST POWER FIST THE WORLD HAS EVER SEEN.

Sorry no really its to big. I did think it was a magma grapple when I first saw it dunno why thats just what popped into my head.

Love the massive flame storm razorback

For the other powerfist I'm looking at the "hand" from the Venerable. What can I say, I like the thought of a dreadnought that can pimp slap an enemy.
