You can change the mix ratio from 50:50. I think adding more yellow than blue will make it softer, but you will not get as strong a hold when you are done.
You can also try adding in some grey stuff. I think that makes it easier to work with, but I have never tried it.
Personally, I find that it only starts getting a bit too hard once I have been working with it for more than 10-20 minutes, so you might want to mix it in smaller batches so you are always working with it at its softest period.

It should soften as you work it
roll it between the palms of your hands when mixing.
The friction warms it up which makes it go softer

If it doesn't soften, it could be old.
The older the stuff gets, the more like hard tack it becomes.

You can freeze unmixed GS to keep it fresher for longer if you want to.
Just need to defrost if a few hours before use. Handy if you buy in the larger rolls.

useful to know as have just got some , Silver. thanks
One reason I got the big tube was that my strip of GS went off in the centre, so I had to cut out the middle.

No problem I've used rolls and tubes. Have to say that even though the centre section of the strips often hardens, I prefer it to the tubes. Might make myself some strips of blue and yellow from my current tubes for ease of use.

I find you don't have to defrost it - just use clippers to cut off what you need. It'll defrost quite quickly in your hands while mixing it.
