Resembling a giant turtle, the L.R.S.U is a large heavy support walker designed to provide a stable firing platform for large weapons, such as the volcano cannon. L.R.S.Us are deployed where titans are either not available or would be vulnerable as its low profile allows it to utilize cover in a way that titans could not.

Long Range Suppressor Unit: L.R.S.U

Unit Type: Superheavy walker

Structure points: 3

Cost: 350 points

WS....BS....S.......F....S....R.....A...I
.2.......4.....10.....13..12...12....1...1

Transport cap: 20 models

Access points: 3, 1 on the rear of the model and 1 along each side

Fire Points: 2 platforms along the sides, each allows 10 models to fire from it.

Weapons: Pintle mounted Heavy bolter

One main weapon from the following list (weapon is mounted in the front arc)

Plasma Blast Gun
Volcano cannon
Turbolaser Destructor

Special Rules

Lumbering Giant: although the L.R.S.U is a walker it is far from resembling the fast and agile warhounds of the Legio Titanicus. the L.R.S.Us basic movement speed is 6"

Walking Tank: The L.R.S.U is to all intents and purposes a tank with legs. Enemies wishing to tear it apart up close must make their strikes and get away fast. if the L.R.S.U assaults or is assaulted by the enemy, resolve close combat as normal, but after the combat is over the enemy must decide whether to consolidate away from close combat in the exact same way as if they had won OR they may remain and lock the walker in close combat, but they will take D6 Str10 hits as the walker attempts to crush them beneath its bulk. the L.R.S.U may never make a sweeping advance.

I very much like the idea... but it should be cheaper i mean the bane blade varient that uses the volcanoe cannon is only 450points and it has loads more guns, perhaps make it bare at 350 and you have to buy all the other bits.

I think it should have a modest transport capacity to justify the 500 points, and, just like EagleArk said, the Shadowsword is 50 points cheaper with more weapons.

Give it a transport cap of 15 and some close defence weapons (or even allow troops to fire from within), and it should be fine.

It makes only sense that the platform would have bunks for the crew/a small garrison of defenders, so transport capacity is a good idea to justify the cost.

A couple more defensive weapons may also be desired.

I love the idea, but am a little curious as to the reason (fluff-wise) for this rule:

The thing is too big for enemies to remain close for long. perhaps i should change it slightly.

i like the transport capacity

Not bad but you're cutting your own throat against Orks or any FA unit by forcing them to attack, consolidate and attack again on their next phase getting their bonus each time or else take D6 S:10 hits. Maybe force them to consolidate but if the L.R.S.U wins CC then the unit is auto pinned? But with only 1 base attack it's not likley that the L.R.S.U. will win very many boxing titles. Giving it a flame template weapon solves this issue, (IDK much about titan weapons so if there is one there I appoligies).

You might look into some kind of "crush" penalty if a unit decides to remain in combat with the vehicle at the end of the phase?

To represent the multitude of legs which haul this giant machine along scissoring through the air and smashing into the ground as it walks?

thats why i put in they will take D6 Str10 hits if they choose to remain in CC.

How is it any different to a titan, or a Leviathan, or any other super-heavy?

Not trying to be snarky here, just not seeing the connection.

i am not super familiar with the rules for super heavy walkers, but i belive they can still be locked in CC as normal.

this limits their effectivness.

i think titans shouldn't be locked in close combat.

this might exist already, but i am not sure.

also a titan is waaaay up high, only its feet are down low. the L.R.S.U is really close so it can be unerving to be close to it as if you go under it, it might just do a belly flop and kill you.

Guess I should have looked at that first...

Turns out the Super Heavy Walkers follwo the same rules as Gargantuan Creatures in close combat... and they already have a similar rule to yours...

At the end of the combat, any enemy model that isn't also a Gargantuan Creature (or Super Heavy Walker) has to consolidate away to more than 1" away from the Walker.

I would recommend checking out the Apocalypse book for the Gargantuan rules. The stomp attack is particularly handy for the big'uns...

so the rule i put in isn't pointless.

you can stay in CC, but you might get squished....bad.

Suggestions:

- Make its so that you cause D3 S10 hits in CC to every unit in the combat with you (instead of your one attack). Or make it so that they must take an I test or take one S10 hit (stomp ). Also use the 1" fallback rule for Gargantuan Creatures

- Sponsons? A total of 4, 2 per side. One with a TL flamer, and one with a TL HB. You can shuffle your 6" and still fire, IIRC. Should put off assault troops, or at least do something useful

- Cant remember if this is covered by walker rules or not, but how does it deal with terrain?

- In my minds eye, i saw it as sort of a AT-TE (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/All_Terrain_Tactical_Enforcer) but with only 4 legs. Correct? Or is it meant to be arty? Just wondering...

I don't play as much as I could. I blame society! And ninjas

Wehrkind: "Nah, see he yells the order, and when everyone looks at him and say "What?" he grabs the vox, hits a guy with it and screams "CAN YOU HEAR MY NOW?!" into the mouth piece. Works like a charm "

Funny thing to do on L4D [if you own the server] Bind the tank music to a key, then at quiet moments press it and start firing like mad at something behind your team whilst screaming 'tank' on voice comms.

indeed, i do see it as a AT-TE with 4 legs and the gun is mounted in the front arc.

all super heavy walkers already have the Stomp and 1" fall back rule.

Sponsons aren't really fiting with the unit. it's meant to have troops guard it.

its basically a very large gun walker thats meant to engagge large targets without being really able to defend itself from close range attacks(except from assaulters of course)

Yes i can see that, perhaps just have 3 HB mounted around the veichal to suggest heavy firepower.

@ sir mongo: This would be interesting, maybe have rules similar to assaulting into a building? Kind of like a boarding action? There will be some common sense design considerations that would make a boarding action useless, but I love the idea. Think Halo 3 or Battlefield 2142...
