The funny thing is that everything I read pre-crash and burn said that GM was actually starting to do the right things...shrinking their (bloated) product lines, addressing quality, etc. The issue was obviously that changes were years overdue. And it's not all the union's fault. There was lots and lots of bad management for years.
It may take some time, but GM can turn it around. Whether they will or not remains to be seen, of course.
It'll be interesting to see what happens when the Chinese finally start making headway here. As an industry person once wrote, what took the Japanese 20 years took the Koreans 10 years and will take the Chinese 5 years. Might be hyperbole with the 5 year thing, but the Chinese will probably copy the business plan the Japanese pioneered and the Koreans successfully copied. Like with Hondas, Hyundais used to be jokes, but now they're solid, well-built cars.

People expect a government owned car company to be good?
Lol. Ford is the only manufacturer to refuse a bailout and they made money for the first time in like 5 years.
I'll stick with Ford, tyvm.

--The whole concept of government granted and government regulated 'permits' and the accompanying government mandate for government approved firearms 'training' prior to being blessed by government with the privilege to carry arms in a government approved and regulated manner, flies directly in the face of the fundamental right to keep and bear arms.

The privately-owned GM was terribly managed for years. It's one instance where the government actually can't do worse.

We'll see.
Would be nice to see GM stay afloat but only because I'd hate to see 1,000's more laid off.
