I had purchased a few impossible-to-build Zoanthropes to convert into a DoM, but do you think this would suffice?

I'm talking about the Alien Brain.

Looks like a unique Zoanthrope to me. Just don't get the one on the stupid floaty chair.

The Alien Brain itself is a bit smaller than the Zoanthrope, so it looks a bit less impressive.
But the Alien Pod Brain is fantastic for that purpose. I use it myself. See my sig for a link to my Tyranid blog with a pic of both painted.

It comes with the Brain, too, and it's discounted somewhat. Though it looks fine for the job as the chair, i think it looks a little awkward as just the skimmer.

Well nothing wrong about it, as some want a Zoanthrope, some a Zoa with pod, some just the Pod. Tastes differ, and the Pod Brain is a bit cheaper than Brain plus Pod. BTW Bocks has just finished sculpting a new Brain (no release dates yet) and there are other nice Alien models in the release pipeline.

I say go for it. Mixing some non-GW mini's into your army always brings people to the table to ask questions. Plus its a nice change to work on some different mini's.

definitely go for it. it's obviously the purpose of the model. i was going to get one, but decided to convert my own. the GW fig is allright, but i just don't like metal models, especially such top-heavy ones.

I'm with you on that...I've hurt myself twice trying to pin the 5 Zooeys I have. I guess I'll make it an even six and buy the Brain. At worst, I'll just have a need additional model...the price is certainly right.
Thanks for the opinions!

My exact thoughts.
I've got two Zoeys at the moment. They are an important part of my army. It's a nice model but they are terribly top heavy in metal. I would love a good plastic or resin version.
