Hi all

Im painting up a Vindi now and think the model needs its monster steel tooth on the front to look its best

From a gaming perspective how valuable is the Dozer Blade / Siege Shield?

At 5 or 10 points, whats the difference?

That 10 points for Siege Sh could be a spare storm bolter dealing 2x St4 AP5 shots per turn instead -

Can I please get thoughts on use of this in gaming turns, even though it really looks kick a$$ on the model which in my book is reason enough

Well 97% of the time you are going to be just fine with a dozer blade. The siege shield is for those 3% of times where you fail it twice in a row. It is a question only you can answer as to whether that's worth an extra 5 points

-Any terrain containing Sly Marbo is dangerous terrain.
-Sly Marbo once played an objective mission just to see what it was like to not meet every victory condition on his own.
-Sly Marbo bought a third edition rulebook just to play meat grinder as the attacker.
-Marbo doesn't need an Eldar farseer as an ally; his enemies are already doomed
-Sly Marbo was originally armed with a power weapon, but he dropped it while assaulting a space marine command squad just so his enemies could feel pain
-Sly Marbo still attacks the front armor value in assault, for pity's sake.

You could always just put it there to visually please the model and say it doesnt have it while actually playing, i would be fine with it...

being able to ignore difficult terrain, especially on a fairly short ranged vehicle, is important.

unlike many other SM vehicles, if the Vindicator is immobilized it can't shoot things that arn't in front of it.

its short range also means it may have to move closer to the enemy to get a shot off.

besides it looks kinda lame without the blade.

Siege shield never wins. Dozers are all you need, you never buy siege shields. Seriously, anything else in the list is better to spend pts on

Dozer is good enough most of the time. Siege Shield is an optional extra. Unless you play BA, in which case the Siege Shield is well worth the extra points.

Extra armour too? I can only think of one place that can possibly be worth its inflated cost: Land Raiders loaded with something nasty. On anything else, it is way too many pts for something that helps with 1 of 6 outcomes. 4th ed = extra armour always, 5th ed = extra armour extremly rarely

Haven't had a chance to play with my vindi, yet. I put on the extra armor and dozer blade regardless, since it looks so badass. If they truly are nothing more than point sinks, I may start asking to play it counts-as, but for now, it'd just too cool to leave off. I don't care about competitive lists, at this point, so it's no skin off my nose. If you're anything like me, before you ask if it's effective, ask yourself if you really care.

The siege shield looks badass, and that is reason enough.

plus, 5 points for a pintle bolter is a huger waste. I mean, you have this huge party cannon - how often is a piddly little bolter going to be all that effective against whatever the main gun is shooting against? It's like putting a storm bolter on a lascannon LR. When will you actually use it?

As mentioned before, at least the shield gives you an even greater ability to make sure that the fixed-arc party cannon will be able to keep things in said arc.

Good point happy grunt, want that pie plate in play at least 2 turns of party time

having said that its the old story - those 10points have to compete against other priorities..

For me, it's not an issue of statistics so much as it is of area control and mobility. Having a siege shield means being able to move through terrain with utter impunity. Most people will still bank on the fact that you don't want to move your tank into terrain if you don't have to. With a siege shield, you don't even have to consider it. Which is worth 5 points in my book.

This. Having iron clad insurance that the vehicle WILL not be immobilized due to terrain opens up lots of possibilities and more importantly screws with your opponent's head.

Dozer blades are totally worth 5 points. It royally pisses me off that that idiot Cruddace made them 10 points for IG.

I'd say that you should take it. You don't often fail difficult terrain tests, but a few extra points for insurance is very important.

dozers are worth 5pts, but siege shields are not worth 10 when you can get the dozers for 5

well said all

so for a rookie, how do you use a dozer / siege shield to go through buildings on a vindi? guessing moving 12 into the building helps? can you bring the building down if for example its full of devestators?

They are not offensive weapons in any way, shape, or form. They do just what they say they do, keep you from immobilizing in terrain (usually). Re-read vehicle movement and terrain rules (difficult vs. impassable in particular) again, and see if your question makes any sense.

As for bringing down buildings, you can only do that if you and your opponent decided on an AV for it, and you're much better off shooting or meleeing it rather than ramming. So short version: no.

yep will re-read - has been awhile and as I said upfront, rookie question - appreciate getting an answer, now I know

the only reason you can't go through the building is if you and your opponent decide before the game whether the buildings count as impassable terrain or not.

if infantry can go in it then the vindicator can go in it(scary huh )

Drive your vindi into a building, poke its cannon out a window and claim a 3+ cover save from being nearly totally obscured.
