They haven't found any impact crater or chunks of rock though, that's the odd thing. Something that big would leave some signs. Maybe it was a drop-pod full of Spayse Mehyreens? That counts, right?

meteorites rarely leave impact craters as most of them burn up in the atmo, but small, goofball and under sized objects do scatter the area where the meteorites break through our stratosphere. this takes large groups of people fanning out over miles to recover.

It was an asteroid about the size of texas, but since Bruce Willis wasn't available to go drill a hole in it, they shot chuck norris into space so he could hit it with a good roundhouse kick and shoot it back to the romulan nebula. what everyone saw was actually just light reflecting off of chuck's steel tipped boot.

D'oh! Right, Meteorites are the burn-up kind, Asteroids are the big hole-in-the-ground kind. I'm more worried about something smoking me in the head
Although Necros seems to have the most likely explaination

METEORS are the burn up kind.
METEORITES are the ones that hit the ground (regardless of size. If any fraction of it made it to ground, it is one of these).
ASTEROIDS are the big floaty rocks "out there" that will be an OMFGELE/DINOSAUR KILLER or larger doo-hickey.
I've got a picture of a meteor that streaked below a landsat satellite (missed it by a couple of km) and bounced off the atmo - courtesy a mate a one of our tracking stations.

Hmm... Megatron's helmet also kind of looks like Darth Vader's... Corpses, did that Obama link bring up anything about the Empire perchance? Because if normal Nazis are bad, then Space Nazis with Laz0rsw0rdz are even worse. Add to that the fact that they've now got their own legion of Intelligent Transforming Space Robots from Space, and that's like... Nazis times.... times... I don't even know what that is!

you mean like the lava rock in the beginning of Dante's Peak? because that would suck.

a Meteor burns up the sky, creating meteorites, that are too small to leave impact craters, and yes, an asteroid causes craters.
so what I meant to say was, there are always meteors, but most meteorites FROM said meteors burn up before they hit the ground because they so small....
