please do not let this turn into a Diablo III thread...it's never coming out because Blizzard hates people unless they play WoW...

but does anybody still play? I still play both, and still, after beating them [carlsagan]billions[/carlsagan] of times, I still find them enjoyable...mainly because of the music and atmosphere...and they are fun as hell...

and while I do have 1337 haxD OMG! characters on open battlenet, I still have not collected all of the unique items on closed.

Ugh, speak about time eating games.. But yea, I reinstall diablo 2 nearly every year.

I had a better time with Diablo 1 back in the day though..

I can't wait till Diablo III comes out! It'll be awesome!

In seriousness, I found the games to be very dull. Maybe it's just the age and my own tuning to better, modern-age games of the same genre (Torchlight, for example) but I've never really liked the Diablo games. I think my biggest problem was the lack of an action bar to quickly access multiple spells and abilities. And just picking one skill and running with it the entire game got really boring. (Thorns-paladin, for example)

In your base, ignoring your logic.

I loved diablo 2 growing up. I was seven when I tried my hand at Diablo and felt accomplished when I beat the Butcher. I was much, much better at Diablo 2 although I don't like the "I can kill other players" character builds. You don't know what it's like to get wasted by a guy 10 levels lower than you, it's terrible.

yeah I agree, the player killing in Diablo 1 was one of the things that made me nerd rage heavily.

Diablo 2 had a pretty active skill/spell pick system, I mean you pushed s and it brought up your menu, you could do it while you were fighting...it wasn't like diablo 1, where you do anything but click on the bad guy and you effing die.

Erm, you can assign skills to the F keys, works like a charm. Not that i ever used anything other then fire wall and frozen orb...

Or Whirlind/berserk/frenzy...

As for Diablo clones i've played: Dungeon siege 1-2 and Titan Quest.

I used to play Diablo 2 all the time. Few things are as fun as being a Necromancer and raising fifteen skeletons to do your dirty work for you...
as you raise another Golem to take care of the tougher enemies, and then surrund yourself in bones to keep from taking damage.

Ahhh..... what fun i had.

Pity they limit you to 5 summons total online now. I used to love having people bitch cause I lagged them(but not my system for some reason) thanks to having 15+Skellies of different types, some Revenants(the guys where you raise up dead enemies as what they are) plus a Golem running around.

Past the beginning of Nightmare, that build just wasn't feasible, though, as Skellies were too weak to be a threat. Maxing Bone Spear was fun, though(killed Meph with nothing but that a couple times by standing across the ravine from him).

You know you're really doing something when you can make strangers hate you over the Internet. - Mauleed
Just remember folks. Panic. Panic all the time. It's the only way to survive, other than just being mindful, of course-but geez, that's so friggin' boring. - Aegis Grimm

I never played online, I jsut played story mode. But I was the only one of my brothers to figure out how to equip the mercenaries so they didn't suck.

Ahh.....

Ten decently powered skellies, one uber powered Golem, Bone Armor to the max, and an archer equipped with slotted items.... those were the days.

Diablo 2 is good, except for that thrice blasted jungle level. Those pygmies that shoot you and run away, and those fire breathing fethers.

Those bastards are easy compared to that melon-fether Duriel. That guy was ridiculously hard to beat as a melee character, because of his cold aura, insane attack speed and charge. I had a Paladin with 75% cold resistance and I still got frozen all the damn time.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

Whirlwind eats Duriel...

But My favorite character was a Titan Barb ( all stats on STR except for equipment requirements ) and just use Berserk with a Pole arm, Maul or other fat weapon.

I was swinging around Breath of the Dying great pole axe by the end of it.

But you need to be level 30 to get Whirlwind. I don't fancy the idea of grinding away in Act II until I hit 30.

Grinding?

Jojothemonkeyboy introduced me to true grinding. They just did runs on Nightmare in
preparation for Hell or something like that.

Augh.

Ah, the hated 'Baal runs'. Everyone does those, all the time. You just get so much XP and good gear for it that it's not worth playing normally.

Getting to level 30 was easy :\

Oh, and for duriel I usually just got me a tricked out merc, just make sure you have some cash and plenty of TP's and it's not all that hard.
