The mission type was Annihilation deployment type Spearhead.
I had won the role but choose to go second so I could see what he deployed first because in the past his army can be played pretty much all from reserves. He places his two predator tanks in his corner of the map right next to the downed Valkyrie we were using for terrain. I deployed my three rhinos, razorback and predator in the back corner placing my rhinos as close to cover as I could and putting the predator and razorback close to the corner to maximize their range and the distance it would take for his assault squad to come at me.
His first turn he fired at my rhino and predator but failed to do anything with his predators.
My first turn my dreadnought came into play deep striking right behind his predators. Luck was with me this day because the drop pod hit its mark perfectly. The dreadnought came bursting out of the pod opening fire on the rear of the predator. Having TLOS and no cover the predator blew up after the first volley. I disembarked the long fangs from the Razorback and placed them near cover.
My predator fired at the other predator with its auto cannon yet failed to damage it.
End of turn one SW:1 BA:0
Second turn his assault squad comes in but neither of his Baals manage to. The assault squads form a triangle around the dreadnought yet can't manage to get a clean shot off at him yet they destroy the drop pod. The blood lance penetrated the drop pod but failed to do anything but the meltas destroyed it completely. His predator fires at Ragnar's rhino stunning and immobilizing it.
My turn I move up with my rhinos still and I move the razorback over to try and get a clearer line of fire on anything on the board. The razorback fires and hits one marine yet he simply ignores the blow. In my haste I forgot to move the dreadnought around so he couldn't shoot at the squad he planned to assault. My long fangs open fire with three krak missiles and two lascannon shots. The missiles hit but only scorch the paint yet both lascannon shots hit but failed to do anything else.
End of turn two SW:1 BA:2
Beginning of turn three his Baal predator comes into play and opens fire on my rhino immobilizing it and stunning the crew yet the rhino remained. His librarian squad rushed into combat against my dreadnought immobilizing it and destroying its close combat weapon. The dreadnought swung wildly knocking over a few marines but not killing any of them. That ends his turn
My turn my scouts come in and I rolled a 5 for their outflank so I choose them to come in on the edge with the Baal. I move my predator up a little bit to make sure I have range on the Baal or anything else on the field. I move up the one remaining rhino I have who isnt immobilized. My scouts open fire against the back of the Baal destroying it the turn it came onto the board. My long fang squad opens fire on his remaining predator destroying it under a volley of lascannon fire. Assault resolved ending up with my dreadnought blowing up and showering his assault squad with shrapnel.
End of turn three SW: 3 BA: 3
Beginning of turn 4 the second baal predator comes out of reserves and comes in on my side of the table behind my predator. It opens fire on my predator causing it to be stunned and immobilized. His assault squad advances towards my Scouts but doesn't shoot at them. Librarian squad moves closer to my immobilized rhino and opens fire yet only shakens the crew with the melta guns. The librarian uses blood lance but he rolls double sixes caught the librarian to take one wound. His assault squad charges my scouts and completely annihilates them.
My turn I disembark all of my grey hunters from the rhinos and move them closer to his librarian. One squad fires on his 5 man squad of assault marines but fails to do anything (god damn feel no pain). My second squad fires at his HQ squad and did nothing. Ragnar's squad pores even more bolter fire into his HQ squad and does nothing. (again.. FOP is a pain to fight against). My long fangs and razorback fire into his Baal yet fail to do anything. I throw caution to the wind and assault his hq with my hunters resulting in him losing one and me losing 2.
End of fourth turn SW:3 BA: 5
Beginning of turn 5 no reserves come in and the only thing that moves is the assault squad that killed my scouts tries to make it across the board yet is too far to do anything for the rest of the game. His 5 man assault squad assaults Ragnar's squad and ends up with 2 casualties but dealing 5 wounds to my squad. Ragnar takes one of them yet 4 of the 9 grey hunter's die. Combat resolves with the other assault squad causing 2 more casualties on my side yet both melee's continue.
My turn I fire at the Baal with everything I have ending up with it destroyed. Ragnar howl's giving all my hunters furious charge. My full strength GH squad joins the fight against his HQ. The resulting blood bath ended up with 3 casualty from the 10 man squad 1 on the already hurt squad and 4 on his HQ squad. Since his units are fearless they take another wound from my smaller squad because it won the combat. Ragnar completely kills the squad locked in combat with him.
End of fifth turn and end of game
SW: 5 BA: 5
We called it at the end of the 5th turn because of time after we realized it was almost 11:30 at night and we've been playing for ever 2 hours.
In the end I was really happy with the last minute addition of the scouts and the dreadnought. They did everything I wanted them to do before dying and that was kill a vehicle and hold his assault squad in combat for at least a turn. It was a hard fought game but I tried to play more aggressively and make Ragnar proud. It was definitely a enjoyable game and I finally feel good about the army list I have.

Yeah, that was pretty close to what happened. I'll have to say that was a pretty good Battle Report.
It was a very good game.
Next time, however, everything stays in reserve

Yeah I'd really like to take my army against someone who isnt all keep everything in reserve and what not. But I didn't walk away going what could I do differently or who to take out I knew what I should have done a little different but for the most part I was happy with my army's performance on the field of battle. It was good, awesome in fact, but sometimes people just read and only comment if something crazy or wrong happened. Since it's SM on SM, aa little fluff or something adds a little jazz to things.

I also read it and very much enjoyed it. I think a lot of us appreciate you sharing the game, but did not have anything concrete to add to the report so we did not say anything!
Take this as a sign you and your opponent seemed to have both played a tactically sound game.

Very nice report. I play SW ( really lol ) and my friend is going to be building BA so I look forward to some more battle reports between these two great armies.

Let me tell you something.. FnP is just slowed to have on entire squads.. hell BA can set it up to have it on their entire foot army so its kind of hard to employ the tactics I feel fit the Space Wolves, shooting at them and then charging them to take advantage of their attacks and of Ragnar, yet when they are rolling a 3+ then a 4+ it's really hard to shoot the squad down to smaller then mine. Then you have the fact that his squads are set up to have ~2 power weapons per squad and I only have 1 he normally wins in melee just on the fact that he statistically takes less wounds and inflicts more unsaveable wounds then me. I'm thinking of moving some points around to either take out a squad of GH for wolf guard with claws to counter FnP and to give me a strong assault squad or give my GH mark to hopefully get some rending kills in on a charge.

Man, you're really beating this FNP thing to death. SW's are the king of SRFF. Take advantage of your plasma weapons, deny me my FNP and armor saves. You're going to need things that fall into that category that I sent you in a text earlier. Plasma, which you can field tons of, is one of those things . Bunker up and burn my @$$ on the way in. You're essentially trying to do that now anyhow. Stop trying to beat me in CC . Play to your advantage
As I've stated before, if I can't get you out of your rides then my army is like a limp noodle I just sit around and pick my nose and hope that the next turn I'll have a little more luck popping one of your transports. At the same time, however, my list has also been built around this weakness so that I can keep those units stunned and shaken, at the very least, and not shooting at my units. But. . .anyhow

That is one of the better battle reports I have seen on dakka. Concise enough to not get lost in the crap, detailed enough to give a really good ebb and flow feel to the battle, and I really liked the way you kept the running tab on the two armies. Excellent work.
I haven't had a chance to really go through the BA codex, and never looked through the SW codex cause I dont play them, but one important fact you may be able to take advantage of is that BA are traditionally an assault army, not a close combat army. If you can take their charge away, assault them first; you can make them a less scary proposition. Grim is very correct in his assesment that plasma is your friend. If you are making an all-comers list and have plenty of opponents in the area, you might not want to tune your force too much to stricly beat his wolves, but more plasma will certainly serve you immensely well against ANY MEQ you face, period. Against BA, it punches right through FNP. You really could benefit from more plasma.Volume of firepower solutions against a BA force that has FNPall over the place begin to dim somewhat; you need the punch-through power of plasma.
But a damn fine batrep, and pulling a draw against a Marine force is probably a sign of many enjoyable games to come.

It is hard to take advantage of the melta guns, I should either swap them for flame throwers so I can get more hits on a squad before assaulting a squad because I don't see many times I'll be in a place to take advantage of them unless I play against a kan wall or something of that nature where vehicles are coming to me or are going to be close.
To my own account I forgot who exactly had the plasma weapons. I'll try to give more battle reports against grim or if I can find another player at the local game store.

Yeah plasma are going to stay or become more prevalent and I'll report how they do in the next battles or what not. I got talked out of the flame thrower idea I'm just not sure how to outfit my dreadnought

Sanguinary Priests are ICs, and follow the rules for them. Place a power weapon in B2B or in position to bounce attacks through, take out the priest and you've taken away the FNP.

I wanted to focus fire on the other predator with my long fangs and have my dreadnought tie up his assault squad in melee for awhile. In hindsight I should have probly focus fired on the pred till it was dead and then I would have had my dreadnought pivot enough to get some more shots off before it was destroyed.

Exactly right, then hit them with massed fire power/templates.
Take out the FNP (painboyz in Nobz mobs if you ever play an Ork foe), stack kills on an IC, do what it takes.
As an Ork player, I'm always confused why their aren't more Power Fists Sgt's in Space Marine armies. One PF attack on a T4 IC without Eternal Warrior and it's gone.

Well I found out I actually won this battle. Immobilized vehicles dont count towards kill points only if they are blown up so.. I won.. actually by a lot because the only things I lost was my dreadnought drop pod and wolf scouts. Vs 2 preds 2 baals and a assault squad

The only thing I can really add is that for the price of ragnar you could've had a TWL with frost axe and SS and I guarantee he'd have cleaned up nicely. THat's opinion though and some people just like ragnar and his abilities.
Good report sir, I'm also glad that a fellow SW didnt completely outclass his opponent, it gives me hope that we'll see something more interesting this year at ard boyz instead of it being like adepticon where it was all either leaf blower guard or SW.

Plasmas are fail. Better to take meltas. You rapid fire, you can't charge, not to mention you have 2x the chance for Gets Hot! Deny BA their charge and their usefulness has just been cut in half.
I disagree when people say BA are more assaulty than SW. Get a Rune Priest and Wolf Guard and you could potentially have 3 power weapons in each Grey Hunter squad. Throw in a banner and Mark of the Wulfen and you'll beat down almost any other troop choices. One of the greatest strengths about the Wolves is their relative cheapness to spam good units. In a 1500pt army, you could actually fit in 4 of those units, though people would consider that cheesy.
Ragnar is such a beast. I use him in my 1850pt+ lists. He is fierce by himself, but his main strength lies in how much better he makes his army (or rather, how much more assaulty he makes his army). A TWL doesn't really add any buffs to the army other than being a close combat beast.
