Has anyone noticed how much the Nerf Recon looks like a Bolt Pistol? I think it looks eerily close to the real deal. With a few mods it could look even more like a Bolt Pistol (well, maybe a little bigger, but, again, eerily close).

It's a neat toy, and I bet would be a good base for anyone into costume play (never seen 40k cosplay, but I know some Warmachine folks do it). You'd just have to repaint it.

But wasn't that thing recalled?

Yes it was recalled, skin could get caught in the plunger, also there is some decent cosplay stuff on this very forum

The Recon is modular, so if you assemble it as a pistol, it looks like this:

In fact, the thread you linked me to has the guy using the Recon as a base for a bolt pistol, so the OP is not far off.

Yes it does, and yes they do. Infact theres a thread in the modeling section, of a guy that has modded a few of those. And he posted a link to a site hes a member of, that has a bunch more of those made into bolt pistols. Pretty cool stuff

No accident since a number of the designers and such that work at Hasbro are into 40K. A number of them used to play at a store I spent a lot of time in back when I lived in RI...

My little brother has a few of those.

I'd shudder to see what would happen if the rounds his guns fire were explosive.

I've still got one of those lurking around somewhere. I'm surprised they didn't get told off by GW for that, knowing them

I've used the recon before, and while they do have similarities to a bolt pistol, as a functioning nerf gun, they really are awful. Jams, clogs and chews the darts up.

I was at Anime Boston a few weeks back and the amount of converted Nerf guns into sci-fi weapons is ludicrous. There were even a few Warhammer cosplayers there, and one Commissar had a Nerf Recon pistol done up as a bolt pistol. Those things are a boon for people who like dressing up as spacemen.

I know that was a joke, but GW only goes after companies/people they can bully and/or bankrupt with a lengthy court case. A company larger than them in every way is neither of those things.
