I know they're supposed to be red, but I think of the Word Bearers as sort of the radical Catholic wing of the CSM, and I wanted them to have the sort of zealous, puritanical feel that only lovely, lovely yellow can provide. I keep having to fight the urge to dirty them up. My guys shine their armor 'til their fingers bleed.

The following are a couple of test models, partially or mostly finished. I hope to do a good bit of converting on the rest of the squad, adding scrolls, grimoires, banners, and the like. There's too much paint on these gentlemen, but I'm trying to curb my Simple Green addiction (mmm, jagermeister!), and the third step of recovery is learning to live with mistakes. Uh, right?

So is this a Word Bearers offshoot? I mean, you can't really say Word Bearers aren't red because you don't like that color on them. Just saying, since I personally would call you out on the matter until you said offshoot or successor.

"From the fires of Betrayal unto the blood of revenge we bring the name of Lorgar, the Bearer of the Word, the favored Son of Chaos, all praise be given to him. From those that would not heed we offer praise to those who do, that they might turn their gaze our way and gift us with the Boon of Pain, to turn the Galaxy red with the blood, and feed the hunger of the Gods."

I meant, these particular ones aren't red. I should probably clarify that, eh?

Wow. That's some real Fluff Police stuff going on there. You could say "Lord so and so's company of Word Bearers repainted their armor yellow to show their dedication to X, to show their shame and desire for revenge on Y or because Lord so and so is splitting off from Lorgar.

He can't say Word Bearers aren't red, but he CAN say that THESE Word Bearers aren't red.

Red and Silver is their colors. It's part of their chapter, part of what they use to show their hate of the emperor. If a Dark Apostle insisted on the changing of his Host's colored, he would no longer be an active member of the Legion, plain and simple.

"From the fires of Betrayal unto the blood of revenge we bring the name of Lorgar, the Bearer of the Word, the favored Son of Chaos, all praise be given to him. I never said he can't do what he wants. I merely said the clarification of Successor versus actual is a big deal. Frankly, the Legion would never deviate short of camo, and they hardly use camo.

I'm now infinitely jealous and bitter!

Seriously though, there are not enough yellow Chaos marines. This pleases me, please continue.

On a side note are you going to keep the laughing/screaming/flaming skull iconography?

I don't think so. I read somewhere (where escapes me, at the moment; maybe the online Lexicanum?) that the Word Bearers icon used to be a book in flames, and I think I'll be adapting that image or fabricating a new one. The manic devil head thingy currently in use is a wee bit !!!METAL!!! for my tastes.

Thanks for the kind words, everyone!

The book makes more sense as well, although you do miss out on saying everything in a high-pitched scream. Couldn't see anything written about it but here's the pic.

Will you be giving an Accursed Crozius to your lord/champions as counts as power weapons?

As a personnel bias, I've never been a big fan of yellow on models or in general. However, I think their looking nice. Are you putting a whole army together or just doing a few squads?

Nice I like the yellow paint idea, ever since the new codex the thought of chaos brings about random gangs and cults rather than organized legions.

Sihamoni takes great pride in the league he helped create, as was conveyed in his recent advertising campaign for the CMFL that stated his midgets will "... take on anything; man, beast, or machine."

That's the plan. I'd originally thought to use his banner as a substitute for the AC, but it didn't really seem to work out that way. It's less "weapon of doom" and more "giant book on a stick."

A whole army. A whooooole......enormous.....time consuming......army......

Nice little splinter of the Word Bearers chapter! I'm not a big fan of the color yellow in general, but I think you have made it look nice since you have black armor mixed in there as well. Yellow is a pain in the butt to highlight btw. I can't wait to see a completed squad/group pic. The burning book does look a little better than "screaming daemon head" I like the idea of mixing both of them together on various models in the army.
