Well, after spending time reading other peoples posts, I decided to jump in and start posting....
My background in this gaming/hobby goes back to the 70's in middle school when I used to build and paint WWII tanks and soldiers with my buddy after school. However, I didn't know about
40K or Warhammer Fantasy until a few years back when my teenaged son got a little interested at a local shop on Cape
Cod, Massachusetts and asked me to take him to the store every now and then.
It started innocently enough with the Orc and Empire armies as a way he and I could share some time together and it allowed me to get back into a hobby I could fit into my busy schedule. However, most players here in our area played
40K, so we switched over to Orks and Space Marines. We decided to go with a custom chapter called Blood Eagles. It plays straight up like regular space marines to get the full breadth of the armory. We have nearly 4,000 points of
SM figures and tanks. He now has just begun a Tau army he is working on, but I have stuck with the Orks and have close to 5,000 points of green fury!
To be honest, I don't actually play as much as I would like, so my focus is more on the hobby side as I love conversions. I have entered a few painting contests locally and actually have done pretty well. My latest project is a scratch built Stompa (hope to post photos at some point....).
I expect that the P+M blogs will be where I spend most of my time.....
The really cool thing about this hobby is how it spreads into other aspects of life! I have recently been able to get a friend of mine from work to start an
IG army. He likes building tanks so I have painted up his soldiers. However, like most newbies, the rules can be a little intimidating so he wants to play a bunch of games before he shows up at the local store to play in events. This has led to my getting new windows for the basement and a chance to set up a permanent gaming room! I also like building scenery so I will also have room for some crazy stuff!
Life is good and my wife likes having me at home, so she is cool with the hobby as well!
Looking forward to posting in the future!
