UK drivers had better stay under that speed limit, because the traffic authorities are watching… from outer space. According to The Telegraph, an American company called PIPS Technology has developed a system that uses two cameras on the ground and one mounted on a satellite in orbit to catch speeders.
The system - called “SpeedSpike” - figures your average speed between two points, captures an image of your license plate and reports you if you’re going faster than the law allows. Oh, and if you’re hoping Great Britain’s notoriously gray weather will save you, you’re out of luck; the system works even when it’s cloudy or dark.
SpeedSpike will be tested in two places: the London borough of Southwark, and along the A374 between Torpoint and Anthony in Cornwall. If the trial is successful, the tech may be used to enforce speed limits near schools, to reduce the need for speed bumps, and for “main road enforcement for traffic reduction.”

Why bother? We have to pick between: A Complete Idiot who has Run the country into the ground. Another complete Idiot who will run it into the ground the same if not worse than the first guy. and A Guy who could promise Diamonds and Blow to every person in the UK if he won because he has a slightly lower chance than 0 of winning

That sounds pretty cool, to be perfectly honest.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

I agree with the posters who said if you're not speeding you've nothing to worry about. More road fatalities are caused by speeding than anything else, so I don't particularly care how good of a driver you think you are.

This. I hate all these tossers who complain about speed cameras and 'Big Brother' - it's like they won't be happy until they can drive around drunk at 150mph, and they are only punished for every third person they kill!
Cue morons saying gak like 'Well, I can drive well at speed, my reaction times are pretty good....'
Awesome, good for you. Why don't you go and join the fething Air Force? Unfortunately MOST people don't have the reflexes of a fighter pilot, so they should drive at a sensible speed, and expect to be penalised if they don't.

Nah. I'm not even registered to vote in the UK, Though I am in Ireland since they allow UK Citizens to register because there is no way of differentiating between a UK Citizen from the North of Ireland and one from England, and they are all about the "All Ireland" shtick.
I voted Sinn Féin, for T3h Lulz.

Ugh, that show should burn for the epic amount of boredom it generates. That and the unlikable giant ego's prancing in front of the camera.
Anyway, I agree speeding is for morons.

They need to sort out speeders AND the rest of the idiots on the road.
For instance This evening on the Motorway I had spotted.
One driver reading a book!!!
An old guy stradling two lanes at 50 (clear road ahead).
One guy with his wing mirrors folded in.
couple of jerks using their mobile phones.
I mean sure, speeding is against the law and should be punished (don't want a fine? simple, don't speed) but there are other forms of dangerous driving that sure cause a lot of accidents too.
