I have decided to take a break from my orks (Painting green skin on a large amount of models get very tedious) and finally paint the AoBR marines that have been sitting on my desk for what seems like forever now. So since I really don't like many on the vallina chapters I gonna paint them in a Egyptain like theme. Sorta like how the Space Wolves are based off Viking or how the Ultramarines are very Roman like. So right now I have a color scheme using a brownish yellow Ivydan Darksun as the primary color.

Link to the WIP of the scheme

Soooo, Thousand Sons? XD

"From the fires of Betrayal unto the blood of revenge we bring the name of Lorgar, the Bearer of the Word, the favored Son of Chaos, all praise be given to him. From those that would not heed we offer praise to those who do, that they might turn their gaze our way and gift us with the Boon of Pain, to turn the Galaxy red with the blood, and feed the hunger of the Gods."

It was a joke, no worries. That's like saying you can't do another wolf-heavy, beer-swigging army and call them Dogs of War.

I'd go for a lighter blue on the details. That dark blue is muddy and just gets lost in there.

Any ideas where I can get bitz like the Jackal Heads, I remember there was I site that sold resin bitz for different marine chapters. (Of course they wouldn't say they where made for 40k but you know what I mean right?)

I was going with Mordian blue and then a Ice Blue highlight.

After Thousand Sons here the next obvious suggestions:

1.) Search for Tomb Kings bits, maybe loot their metal miniatures as well.
2.) Look at Wargods of Aegyptus http://www.crocodilegames.com/secure/ , they also sell maybe the best selection of bitz and icons http://www.crocodilegames.com/secure/list_items.asp?CatID=24&SubID=38&pageHeading=Items%20-%20Miniatures%20-%20Aegyptus

I love this idea!
I can only agree with brighter details, like turquoise and jade.
Spacewolves has some wolf helmets you could make to jackal helmets with grenstuffed pointed ears. I would suggest use of psykers, since the Egytians really liked their magic, but then again, thousand sons and tzeench...
Oh, and dont forget, one of the great warrior gods of the Egyptian panteon was called Horus, maybe you could use that in some way

I thought thousand sons when I opened up the thread too. Looks nice though, are you going to use a shiny brown like a bronze? Or will it be more of a matte brown? Either way it would look cool, although jackal heads would be a lot more work that would look awesome.

The wolf helmets do work really well, I'm fitting my Chaplain with one for my codex chapter i made called "Retrievers", use my dog paw symbol to the left for chapter symbol, running them codex though people have guessed their were weird SW before.

I think jackal headed(helmeted) mariens with Egyptian symbology could be very interesting. Use the tomb kings modes for ideas on accenting, metallic, etc.

Could field them using the SW codex, just please don't have them riding sphinx...

I having trouble with the Ivydan Darksun. I cant get a good coverage of it over a black primer. It also looks too bright for a desert yellow. I've tried painting cathan brown then trying to work my way up but still no luck. Any tips?

There's actually a bunch of companies that make stuff that fit in with 40k.
Google a few of these:
Forge World
Chapterhouse studios
Pig Iron
Dragonforge(for scenery)

But if you want egyptian theme marines, definatley buy ts for the heads and mix them in with regular marine bodies so they don't have chaosy bits on 'em. Hope this helps.

Sounds like an awesome idea, lots of cool idea to work with, tons of cool warfare and myths.

Make sure to incorporate other animals beside just Jackals, like maybe a PF srg. with a falcon crest instead of an Aquila?

Did you shake the paint pot? Sometimes the paint and water separate and needs a good shake to mix it all back in. And one thing you didn't mention, how thin is the paint?

Do you have some reference on Ancient Egypt? It would be worth getting some solid colours and designs down, as well as some lore-fluff.

For colours I would stick with gold, white and turquoise. Maybe use the sandy colour sparingly. But try and use turquoise instead of blue. Lapiz Lazuli was highly prized by the Egyptians, you see it a lot on death masks. Speaking of death masks, you could look at getting some of those new gold BA guys - I forget the name...

Try to get some robey marines - DA vets would be a good start, as would the BT upgrade sprue. Also try and get hold of some of those romanesque UM loincloths, they might work.

More things to consider would be 'lifelocks' or the side ponytail look. There's a braided side ponytail with a shaved head on the SW range that would be perfect.

Try to use lots of animal iconography. You could even use an animal totem or a hieroglyph to differentiate between squads. Maybe use the lore of each god to describe the actions of each element of your force (Tacs, Devs etc)

I would stay away from obivous, tacky connotations like Anubis. It just makes people think of Stargate imo. There's a whole pantheon of gods to choose from - so go look them up.

I love themed armies, and one thing I'd want to see is something like this done right. No half measures, really go for it!

Stay away from blue and gold if you don't want your marines looking like Thousand Son replicas.

Instead try (like Tek said) lapis lazuli. And sand colour and white. My ultimate advice is look at the Tomb Kings in Warhammer for inspiration.

As for helmets try converting Teminator helmets by snipping off the top vents and modelling green stuff for the jackal ears.

Astra Militarum
Iron Warriors Army: Enyo Company
Enyo (Greek: Ενυώ, English translation: "warlike" in Greek mythology; Roman: Bellona), was an ancient goddess of war, acting as a counterpart and companion to the war god Ares. She is also identified as his sister, and daughter of Zeus and Hera in a role closely resembling that of Eris; with Homer in particular representing the two as the same goddess. As goddess of war, Enyo is responsible for orchestrating the destruction of cities
