So I'm wondering what is the general census on how big the bases for this model should be? Canis base of 60mm doesn't seem right for the normal ones since it talks about his model being bigger and mounted on a larger base. So what would the normal ones be mounted on 50 or 40?

My little bro, uses the terminator size bases.

Most TWC I have seen use the 60mm bases because that is the base size that Canis comes with.

RaW you cannot actually USE TWC at all, but most people play it as a 60mm base, the same as Canis.

60mm seems to be right, considering Canis and Bloodcrushers, which are similarly sized models and of the same theme.

Why do you point this out in every thread about conversions? No one cares.

I care.

I also pointed out that it would be best to mount them on 60mm bases. It's not like I said "RaW you cannot actually USE TWC at all and you are a very bad person for even thinking of doing so and if you do Jervis will come into your bedroom while you sleep and beat you with a stick of Celery."

You don't care. You don't play with the "no conversions" rule, nor do you expect people to follow it. Your only purpose in posting it is to promote controversy, cement your position as "the crazy rules guy", and to have a laugh at the same exact joke you post every time this comes up.

Second that, less of the crazy rules guy gwar.
You could probably do either and it be perfectly fine.

I suggest the smaller terminator bases simply because the dred bases seems excessive, also the fluff says Canis has a particularly large thunderwolf (it also matters to him more because of his rules).

Hes not trying to cement any image of himself. He's merely trying to point out to you what the rules actually say, if you want to houserule things that's fine.

The rules do not actually say "No conversions." The rules actually say "The Citadel miniatures used to play games of Warhammer 40,000 are referred to as ‘models’ in the rules that follow."

Gwar incorrectly infers that this means that models that are not assembled from exactly one Citadel kit are no longer Citadel Miniatures. This is despite the fact that there are no rules that govern how models are assembled. He has no RAW backing for this.

i was more talking about him saying the they dont have a kit, which means they dont have a base, you have to put a model on the base it comes with, thus you cant ever take TWC.

The rules say to use the base the models came with.

They do not come with a base, so to use one is an issue.

An easily resolved issue, but an issue nonetheless.

Akin to asking about the "required" base for spods or Tervigons.

It depends on how you look at these things.

If a model comes without a base, providing you attach that base to it, there isn't a problem with putting the completed model on some ornate base. It's still mounted on the base originally supplied.

For those that got their feathers ruffled by GWAR!'s post... you guys need to loosen up, it was funny and informative.

GWAR is GWAR and in the YMDC RAW does make its way into every topic here.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

Why wouldn't you use bike bases rather than 60mm rounds? Canis' Thunderwolf is an extra big beast right? In Fangir's rules, it says he is "a monstrous Thunderwolf."

In fangirs *fluff*

The only comparable models, Bloodcrushers (which do the same in terms of stat increases!) are 60mm bases, so TWC should be as well

I always thought *fluff* was the part above the profile and rules were in the Wargear section... We're discussing converting models for TW Cavalry here. In the absence of official models I think descriptive text in wargear rules would be appropriate.

If Canis and the other 6 TW's in the army all look the same size, it really makes Fangir look like nothing special. I suppose if you compare them to BC's, not really "precedent" since RAW fans never like to use army 2's rules/whatever to justify behavior in army 1, I suppose 60mm would be OK to.

SW Codex wrote:Physically, Thunderwolves are truly monstrous, their anatomies having more in common with a Terran rhinoceroid than with a normal canine. Reaching as much as eight feet in height at the shoulder.

The biggest rhinos today are about 2 meters tall and weigh about 3500 kg. Being 2.4 meters tall would make a thunderwolf 4-5 meters long from nose to the base of the tail.
Anything fitting on a 40 mm base would be extremely against the fluff.

In one game turn an Imperial guardsman can move 6", kill a few guys with his flamer, assault 6", kill two more guys with his bayonet, flee 12", regroup when assaulted, react 6", kill one more guy with his bayonet and then flee another 12".
So in one game turn an Imperial guardsman can move 42" and kill more than 5 people. At the same time a Chimera at top speed on a road can move 18"...

Because he is unnecessarily anal about the rules and wants everyone to know about it/how smart he is.
