Toowoomba, Australia

April 25, 2000 I joined dakka after 9 or so months of lurking (had tried a couple of times in 1999 to join but I couldn't register for some reason).

My first post was info on the FW waveserpent kit that I had seen at GWHQ at the 40K UKGT and was an upcoming, and at that time unknown release.

I was an Aussie, working at a hospital in London, with the only internet access being the computer in the staff room on the wards, and the library for the university health sciences department attached to the hospital. All dial up... It was a toss up between Portent and Dakka, but dakka won out thanks to its old forum layout and a better sense of community.

At the time my favorite part of dakka was the pictorials of the US members armies, including the tyranid picnic

Alot has changed and many, many users have come and gone. Some of the old, old timers are still around.

So long story short, anyone else been around for ages/ have a story to tell about why they joined up.

Congrats on the long service Gonads. I guess that explains the post count.

I don't remember when I joined. The oldest reference I find can to Dakka in my Gmail history is one sent to me from Andy Hoare in regards to a discussion on GW's FAQ's. It was in 2004.

The board was very different back then though...

Congratz Gonads, but I think the question is that you have to ask yourself.

Was it worth it?

I still remember the Green Marine battle.

I still remember keeping up with Clousseau's blogs (gotta love that Turqoise).

I think this makes roughly 9-10 years for me as well then. Don't even remember my old handle back then, though.

I remember it, too... and I remember loving both armies and wishing everybody could just get along . Cheers for the anniversary, Gonads!

Myself, my twin brother got me into Dakka in late high school / early college, and then I found my way back after years away (I don't even remember what my original username was at this point... I'm getting old!)

Edit: Jinx, Jin . Our two posts are eerily similar... are you my twin under a secret alias!?

I will neither confirm nor deny that query.

How can you even ask such a thing?

Of course it was!

And is!

I know, it was more of a joke. ^.^

Dakka is a nice place, happy that I found it.

I recently registered on warseer, and realized I was arguing with a bunch of 12 year old kids who say their 30 years old.

Hmmm.

I think I was around a little bit before Gonads. A year or so maybe? Dunno, junior high for me, and under a different user name.

I joined because I hated Drew Riggio.

Ha! I joined to fight Mauleed, but then I actually started to agree with him and decided to fight Riggo instead!
