I am thinking about Necrons for a Future Army Next Year after the New Codex Comes out. Forgetting the fact that new models might come out next year. (Not sure what is gonna be changed.)

Are they a good competitive army and what is good with them. There are three Fast Attack Units that I really like. The Scarab Swarms are Vicious from what I seen and make great for keeping stuff
from shooting at you. With hits that can easily kill stuff and with them getting three attacks each makes them pretty good. I also like Wraiths because of how they look but I do not know if they are any good and Immortals also look cool.

So whats good and whats not in Necrons?

As far as in the future no one really knows. But as far as now, Necrons are fairly easy to beat when playing in a competitive setting. That doesnt mean you wont have fun with them though. I personally love the Necrons, hell my nephew plays them, and plays them well.

Scarabs are pretty damn effective against some armies, like SM for example. Those guys just dont have the attacks to wittle a swarm down fast enough. Ive seen my nephew bog down my brothers squads for a couple turns with those little fellas. Against Orks though, they dont fair so well, specially if the boyz get the assault on them.

Immortals have good fire power, and Ive seen battle reps where they have done good in mass. Other then that though, I couldnt tell you strait, because Ive never actually played with Necrons. Ive only played against them a couple times. Ive seen alot of "this squad is better then that squad" on pretty much everything in the codex lol. But wraiths seem to be to costly, and not very effective against other units.

General consensus is that nothing is good in Necrons except Monoliths. Veil of Darkness with destroyers is the only Necron thing that ever gave me any trouble. Generally Necrons are boring to play and more boring to fight. Having a severe lack of options and viable playstyles really hampers the army. Personally I wouldn't even think about them until they get a new codex, which hopefully will fix some issues.

Alright, I shall wait for next year and see what they can do then.

Yeah. If the codex gets rewritten as extnesively as it needs to be then it is impossible to answer what is good for them as so much of it should be changing.

I have plenty of fun with my Necrons, they're probably tied with `Nids as my favorite army, though I'll admit they're not the strongest army around.

There is no consensus that says Monoliths are the only good thing, in fact I often hear people say they don't like the Monoliths and that Destroyers are the only good thing (i prefer destroyers myself).

If you want to play Necrons I think you'd be perfectly fine buying Battleforce boxes and Monoliths, as those will give you the foundation for whatever Necrons currently pass off as competitive and are models that IMHO are rather quite unlikely to be changed when a new book comes out.

P.S. I'm taking Necrons to `Ard Boyz again, so when I win I can shove it down the throats of everyone who says Necrons suck. And if I lose, well, no one expected me to win anyway.

I love Necrons, badass killing machines - well in the fluff anyway.

When I play Necrons I just enjoy having them on the table, it's not about the winning, it's about having fun with what you've got. I've seen alot of defeat but it's a great feeling defeating a 'modern' army with a eight year old rulebook.

It's also nice to see that there is not many with that army at my club (only two of us and one youngster is starting to build one). Unlike Space Marines which are everywhere. You have a sense of identity with Necrons, no fluff joke intended...

If you catch my drift anyway. They're an awesome army, and will be even awesomer once the new update comes out. These are the guys who wiped out the Gods of the 40K universe.
