I would like to know if anyone has any good colour schemes +tutorials (or at least instructions) that they could share
or if you know any great videos that would help me (and others)

Pictures would be a fantastic testimonial!

Thanks guys

p.s. I'm not exactly the most patient painter and really like to drift off. Im looking for a basic scheme that works well yet looks very nice. I heard of one like shadow grey with a shadow grey/fortress grey mix for highlight or something like that but i'm not sure if it looks any good.

So i found a scheme that i like. It is simple and effective. Here it is

1.basecoat black
2. 50/50 mix of space wolves grey and shadow grey
3.devlan mud in creases
4.edges and lines with space wolves grey
And thats the armour right there

I'll probably just wing the trinkets and what not as i go and for the fur pelt ill probably do something like codex grey>drybush white>black wash>drybush white again>devlan mud wash in some areas.

Feel free to continue posting schemes though as i haven't seen this thread on this forum so this may help future beginners!

heres one of mine(not finished thou)

http://s43.photobucket.com/albums/e354/bahamut2k/?action=view¤t=IMG_1927.jpg

i prime them black and afterwards airbrush them with adeptus battle grey.

after this i use a wash(thinned down scorched brown/adeptus battle grey mix).

highlights are done with a mix of white/abg.

all the gold parts get a scorched brown undercoat and the gold is a mix of shining gold and boltgun metal

^_^

I was just about to ask the same question myself.

So what paints would people recommend and should I stick to specific colour schemes?

Here's one of my Space Wolves:

- Basecoat black
- Paint armor Shadow Grey
- Highlight armor Space Wolves Grey
- Paint some details in Shining Gold
- Highlight with Burnished Gold, and give a Gryphonne Sepia wash if the area is large enough
- Paint yellow areas in Iyanden Darksun
- Flesh is Dwarf Flesh with an Ogryn Flesh wash
- Paint over Iyanden with multiple thin coats of Sunburst Yellow
- Grey areas are painted with Adeptus Battlegrey, then drybrushed Codex Grey, then a light drybrush of Skull White

Hey Horn, I like your scheme. It makes a nice chance from 'baby blue'

I have learned a lot of things about painting models, but one thing that I have found that is really easy and gives your model a good smooth look, is by thinning your paints.
