Right now, my main army is SW (Working on a Nurgle Death Guard army also) and honestly, I'm kind of losing interest. I thought they were a very assaulty army but I was proven wrong by that in our escalation league. I like the fluff and look of them, just not the playstyle. I like rushing into the opponent and smashing them in the face, I'm guessing Orks are the way to go?

I also don't want to run to "marines" armies, even though Chaos plays a bit differently it's too much of the same. I'm a chaos player at heart, but not too big of a khorne fan either.

I'll probably be splitting AOBR with my buddy this weekend, he's trying to get into the game.

I would suggest keeping the marines for yourself and making Blood Angels (they are assaulty), but that's only because you should never let your Friend start a meq army (except chaos because chaos is too cool).

Do it. If you require more convincing, WAAAAAAAAAAAAGHHH!!!

Splitting AoBR is a great way to get started for cheap. Play a few small-sided games, have a look over the pictures and fluff in the codex, if you haven't already done so, then go out and get more orks, since you've fallen in love with them. If you haven't, either consult a doctor or slam your head in a car door until you come to your senses (or leave them, entirely - ork players can go either way...)

He actually wants to play Chaos, I told him he can just use the speehs mehreens for now, and just do small conversions or say they're traitor marines or something.

Yes I have fallen in love, with everything but the price cost to point cost D:

I'm pretty excited, and also for the endless conversions as well.

What would a good 1000pt list be?

Having just started my orks and buying a whole box of ABOR and another set of the orks, I'd probably stay away except for maybe buying pieces unless you are going to go whole hog.

I'm very happy with the battleforce box. It has the trukk and 3 bikes (for what they are worth) and since its just the boyz sprues, you get a bunch of extra arms. I'm almost thinking that boyz bodies and heads are bitzable on the cheap to use up all my extra shootas.

My bought list since Feb 1 is
AOBR X 2
Battleforce
4 box stormboyz
2 box lootas
7 bitzed deff guns
2 box boyz
Big Meq with KFF
Painboy
Stormboy and Commando ICs
2 Trukks
1 box Nobz

I've still got some boyz to put togtether and I'm able to field 2500. I plan to pick up a Battlewagon on friday and hope that they have my deff rolla in. I may also grab another box of boyz so I have nice bodyz for the 8 burnas I'm sitting on but might cheap out and net some AOBR boyz. I think all I need then are some Kanz and I'm over the top.

2500 is more than enough for me to play haha, I'm probably going to stick to around 1000-1500. I need to get a codex as well.

I've been playing Space Wolves for years, and I don't have any idea what you mean by them not being assaulty. However, after so long playing Wolves I started an Ork army, and I love playing both armies. Going Orks from assaulty Marines is a really, really natural transition, given the T4 and usually S4 of Orks. Orks are a real blast to play, and they have tons of silly stuff that really makes the game exciting.

Keep your Wolves, and get some Orks. Just be prepared to be heartbroken when 30 of them die in one turn just because.

Maybe I am just playing them wrong, or just have a bad idea on army setup. I'm also very new to the game (started in January of this year). So I don't know what lists are good. I'm doing poorly in the escalation league at the local shop.

I'm fielding Grimnar and he dies to lots of things thanks to my many rolls of 1's. Right now he's died to a Guardian, a termigaunt, some boyz, a bloodletter.. Maybe I should redo my strategy with him.

But back to on topic, I'll probably be able to afford 2 AOBR and maybe a battleforce this weekend, should be a decent start. No?

The battleforce is a bit iffy. It's got lots of Boyz and a Trukk which are both good, but unless you really want the bikers it's not worth the money. Two boxes of boyz would let you round out your AoBR mobs to 30 each, plus give you the option for Nob leaders. It's a pretty good start to any WAAAGH!

Inside a pretty, pretty pain cave... won't you come inside?

Get the codex and see what they have. Read the army lists forum and battle reports for orks so you get some idea of what they play like and what you want to do. Since it looks like you're trying to keep the points lower (1000-1500), you don't want to waste any money or time on units you won't use. At that point level, IMO, orks can be VERY hard to beat because they are very cheap, but they don't escalate as well as other armies because of the lack of enough high end toys.

As has been mentioned, I'd skip the battleforce, unless you plan on fleshing out the squad of bikers. Look around online and you can usually find some pretty sweet deals on bulk boys, which will be the core of pretty much any army. Trukks, too. Shoota guns and arms are pretty cheap and widely available bits if you want to convert your AoBR boys from their stock slugga/choppa setup.

As has also been mentioned, da ladz really seem to shine at low points, if for no other reason than you'll probably have twice the models on the table as your opponent. Army lists are all over the aptly titled Army List forum and I think you'll find that there are a few styles of play (shooty, green tide/foot-slogging, mech, kan-wall, dreadbash), each of which has a few core, universal list elements around which people mix and match to taste.

My main opponents seem to be tyranids, eldar, dark eldar, and some sort of space marines. I'd need a well balanced list to fight them off, especially that dark lance spam!

You'll probably have an easier time facing the marines at that point level, especially at 1000 points! 1500pt games vs the marines can get pretty rowdy but the odds are definately in your favor! Just remember your PK and Boyz Boyz Boyz!
The Tyranids on the other hand, well those crazies can go toe to toe with the Boyz no prob! Alot of em have decent ranged capabilty and in CC it'll be a race on who wipes out who first! No less fun though

I actually had a recent win over the Nids in a 750pt game, he easily had the MVP award for the game in terms of destroying my Boyz but in the end I "just" squeeked the win due to the surviving Nob of my Ard Boyz squad, which gave me 1 more unit active than he had! One of my best games thus far, I totally thought i was done for!

I have yet to play the Eldar or their dark brethern, so unfortunately I have no tips for ya about them!

Happy Hunting!

Turns out a guy at my FLGS was selling his Ork army and went ahead and gave it to me (as long as I pay of course). I played a game today and it was really enjoyable (slaughtered my buddy's daemons in 1200pts)

Now to decide on a paint scheme! I'm thinking Death Skulls just to have random camo around, but I also like the on.s that paint their faces like Highlanders heheh/

Hah thanks ^^

I'm going to make some sort of a ghillie suit out of some terrain grass I have for my kommandos, just for fun, and possibly add some SM shoulder pads for some 'ard boyz.

I can't help but love the WAAAAGGHH

Probably just infantry, footsloggin' I guess it's called? I have Ghazkghul (spelling?) and Snikrot and a ton of boyz so it seems to be the best route to go. Might be throwing in some looted wagons soon, but as of now I am enjoying the playstyle, I'm not much of a shooty guy at all.

Then you'll soon be advised to get a KFF for a 5+ cover save. >.> Personally, with a grudge against the KFF, I'd say try a warphead. Their unpredictability makes for interesting results, and as none of their results are 'heavy weaponry' you can attach them to a boyz mob and possibly teleport one of your mobs into the fray quicker.

As a new player playing Orks I say go for it!

I've had great fun with my Orks. I really like giving them looted gear, they really are the army you can make the most customs for.

Apologies for talking positively about games I enjoy.

I would say that orks are a great assault army to play. The AOBR set is a great place to start too.

I recently started playing orks. I find that they are a great army for the fun lover. I have had more fun seeing my minis get blown up then i ever did playing space marines. Plus, i think we have enough space marine players out there. Someone needs to play against them
