After seeing some of the great Deffkopta conversions on the site I couldn't help but have a bash myself.

I knocked this up yesterday evening out of a Deffkopta, some truck bitz and some plasticard rods, the idea is for him to lead my regular Deffkoptas into battle. At some point I may do a few more, but the amount of "spare" truck bits needed makes this an expensive conversion, unless you have the parts lying around (which I don't )

Anyways here are the shots of the finished beast which I am hoping to get primed and started tonight

Front with propeller

Front with propeller removed

Side on

Side on, once again without the propeller

From above

And finaly... the propeller on it's own and a couple of "rockets" which i am still not sure if I should attach to the wings or not

My planned colour scheme is to fit with the whole Red Baron theme, so he will deffinately be an Evil Sun

As always all comments and suggestions are gratefuly recieved.

Squil.

First off let me say that you have a really nice kitbash there.

My only comments are on the rear wing, the side view it looks a little out of place. Maybe if you cut off the circular rear propeller guard and attach the new rear wing to the wings that are already there or attach them above and you would have a double rear wing. I don't know if I am making much sense, but attaching the wing to the circle just looks off to me.

Second I noticed that when the front propeller is attached the props are actually in the way of the guns. If that ork was to really fire those guns he would just be shooting into his front propeller.

Inside that little light in your refridgerator

^^ that makes it more orky.

Lets face it, only an ork would revise the position of it's guns, after shooting itself out of the sky.

I'm not 100% happy with the rear wing either so I may take your advice on that one by clipping off the circular guard.

To be fair the placement of the guns behing the propeller follows the design of most WW1 era fighters where the placements were the same, the guns were timed to fire so that the bullets would pass between the rotors, that is what the Mek responsible for building the plane has done (hopefuly!).

Lost of old bi-plane shot through their own propellers. They used an interrupter gear that stopped the guns from firing when the propeller was directly in front of the barrel. Seems like an impossible feat, but once I saw how it was done (I don't recall the details) it was amazingly simple.

Huh, didn't realize that the old planes did that. Cool, learn something new everyday. I guess the ork pilot is just praying to Gork and Mork that his Mek knows what he was doing.

Need ta patch up dem holes in da upper wing, mate!

It looks odd to have a line of identical square holes marching along.. I am sure you can kitbash some cardstock to cover ...

also, I think if the prop was spinning, it would be gouging da turf as the rotors extend below the skids on the bottom.

However, these are nitpicky things in the face of a killer conversion!

Quick update!!!

I have filled in the wing holes along the top with plasticard and the odd glyph as they did look a bit out of place.

I have also completely re-done the tail. I have removed the smaller set of wings at the bottom as well as the circular braket which was origionaly the Deffcoptas tail rota. This has been replaced with a short length of plasticard girder with the larger rear wing attached to this.

I appreciate these look a bit "bolted on" at the moment, but, this fits in with the Orky theme

This is superb. Simultaneously formidable and comical, as orks should be! Hope you plan to drill out those barrels though... otherwise the prop will be the last thing to worry about

Thanks to everyone for the kind comments and suggestions

I am toying with the idea of either a Grot wing walker or using the "hanging on by his finger tips" Grot from the Stompa kit grabbing hold of one of the rails on the upper wings.

Unfortunately I am away this weekend so there won't be any more updates until Monday or Tuesday.
