Im not a fan of the new SC2. Don't get me wrong, it is a good game. Im just sick of SC altogether. Tried playing the new one but just couldn't get back into it.
If you loved the original and still do, SC2 is better.
Graphics looks very nice too.
My bro loves it and is already addicted. I'll be watching the cinematics once he eventually buys it in the next century or so. 8)

Currently collecting and painting Eldar from W40k.
Get the game, turn all graphics settings to minimum...oh the hilarity...
But... I'm more interested in just watching the games played on youtube at the moment.
This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

I love the storyline of SC, but like many games, I just can't play skirmish endlessly. I played the beta for a little while, though I think I'll hold judgment until I see how single player is like.

Wow, that seems to be the consensus that is going around about the game, a few years ago I would have gotten into it after playing the demo, but, I learnt that the people who mainly play it online are WAAC power gamers, and I was like not cool. But now I am going to try it (maybe it will increase my attention span for the meanial things in life *I'm talking to you blizzard and your micro-manage must have RTS games*, but who knows?).

Starcraft and Warcraft 2+ always were like that? What made you expect anything different?
You could see such interesting strategies come and go in those games. I'm ready for a well balanced RTS. I'm also very much looking forward to the new mods that this game will spawn.

I recently pre-ordered SC2; $5 for a beta code isn't bad especially since it won't come out until 7/27.
The first Starcraft imo is easily the best RTS ever made so its going to be hard to top it; but thats what Blizzard's always been able to do.
Only played a few skirmish games - it has the feel of the original while adding an incredible amount of strategic and tactical depth. Looking good so far.
Once its actually released I'm sure the single player will blow us away when it comes to RTS and the CGI should be top notch to boot. The map editor and the stuff that people will make will add nearly endless replay value as well.

I was a big fan of the storyline for the first Starcraft and Brood War. Online play wasn't for me though, too competitive and too fast! I guess I played it a little too much like Sim City for most peoples tastes .
That said I'm on the fence about the SC2. It looks fantastic from all the videos/screens I've seen and I'm sure the cinematics and story will be great. It's more me than the game, just not sure I have the interest in an RTS that I'll have to buy three times. I wasn't aware that it will basically be 60 US bucks for all three games, that might just be too much.
The custom map venue is going to be amazing, at the very least. If any of you are on the fence about the game, I suggest watching this video, it will change your minds, I promise.
garret wrote:Im thinking when it is releashed the 3 year hype my disappoint people who are going to play. i will stick to halo wars thank you very much.
Halo Wars? Seriously? That game was mediocre at best. Doesn't even measure up to other modern RTS, let alone the glorious thing that is StarCraft. Besides, the beta has managed to be one of the most popular betas ever, and shows no signs of slowing.
And I can't say I'm looking forward to Diablo 3. The gameplay, and the big graphical overhaul both seem to take away from what made Diablo great.
Still, SCII is looking to be -awesome- and I'll be playing nothing else for months, at the least.
Maybe your grandiose vocabulary is a pathetic compensation for an insufficiency in the nether regions of your anatomy.

Now Diablo III on the other hand...
I have that exact same problem! I want to drag the game out, but no, power gamers rule unfortunately...

It is really fun but has a really steep learning curve. Then again it's because both of my friends are really good compared to me, haha.
Mucho agreed.
With everything on Ultra, it looks really good.
Oh and I have Beta.
Lucky .
I loved SC, but I haven't played it in a while... I'm too much in love with the original Dawn of War.

I mean just look at the recent bumbling acts of marketing childishness we've seen in just the past year! Iron Man 2. All the trailers, previews, interviews, Comi-Con panels, tie-ins with burger joints and whatnot. None of that should have happened. The real way to market a movie like Iron Man 2 is to not tell anyone you're making it until a week before its release and then BAM, you hit 'em with the movie. You get everyone to sign NDA's that are punishable by forfeiture of all the person's assets and/or the death penalty, you hire hitmen to kill journalists that sneak in to take photos, you threaten local towns with forced sterilisation should they blab that something's filming in their town, and then then you say nothing about the movie at all and, in fact, even go so far as to deny you're making it.
Avatar. Another great example. All that hype about it being the most expensive movie ever made, the genius of the special effects, and so on. James Cameron should have denied he ever intended to make a movie after Titanic and then zzzzzzzzaaaaaaappp, Avatar - Realease Date - 1 week from now!
That's the real way to market. None of this preview/trailer/hype bull gak. You say nothing, you deny everything, and you leave everyone guessing as to what the hell you're doing until you physically are no longer able to.
Think of just how much money Avatar and Iron Man 2 could have made if we'd never known they existed until they were already in theatres? Hundreds more. Possibly even hundreds of billions more. Why is GW the only one who gets this?
The map and modding does look pretty nice. Anyone who wanted to play Ghost will have something similar to work with now which will make them happy. I used to like screwing around with the tools for SC and even the WC games. I'll probably pick it up because the single player missions should be promising and it looks really lovely. I'm actually turning around on the idea of releasing it as a trilogy provided they charge appropriately for each subsequent release. The official FAQ says:
Are these three separate games? How much will all of these games cost?
The StarCraft II Trilogy will consist of the base StarCraft II game and two expansion sets. Pricing on these games hasn't been determined at this early stage; however, we've always charged an appropriate price for the content the player receives, and we will continue to release high-quality games that offer great value.
I know this is mostly vague and filled with marketing fluff but I do like that they referred to the other two releases as expansions. That makes me think they might drop the price point there. I also like the idea of new units and new abilities being added over time. Burnout might also be avoided with three different titles coming out over time thus giving the player a break between campaigns.
Now I just have to figure out if my 4 year old iMac will be able to handle it... it can run WOW on high settings without much trouble so... we'll see.
Do I hear an opinion being stated as fact? Or is this a bad attempt to hide trolling? Either way its irrelevant. I personally found the way that C&C treated you as an actual commander in the story modes a fantastic way to immerse you; however; for a fresh feel and balanced forces Starcraft was better in my opinion. The customization abilities with the multiplaer maps in Starcraft were where I had the most fun with an rts and I imagine I will love custom stuff with SC2 as well.
C&C had fantastically balanced units man. There's a reason games would last for hours, rather than just be zergrushes(funny how that term came about with Starcraft, and not a tankrush or a Mammothrush from C&C ) in the first moments of a game.
But yes. Starcraft 2 is sure as hell not getting my money, but nor have the new Command and Conquer games either.
Meh. The zergrush could be countered with your basic gathering units. The SC2 beta has issues with unbalanced units but thats the point of a beta. If they dont fix it I will be saddened because when I've played legit games against people who use balanced forces the games are a blast. If I cant get that I will resign myself back to the use map settings for silly fun but not until a price drop. Too many fond memories of both C&C and Starcraft. I still lean towards Starcraft though.
Of course they're not going to balance these things. It's Blizzard. If you played WoW as a Rogue post-Burning Crusade you'd know their mottos for betas:
Starcraft is not crap, since it has been lauded as best RTS in the world for 10 years in a row, and is still going strong.
Ps. Obvious troll is obvious
Being called something does not make it true.
Starcraft is a pale imitation of the great classic of RTSes. Command and Conquer will always be the best.
P.S.
Obvious Blizzard fanboys are obvious.
I'm not a blizzard fanboy, I only played starcraft for like a week beyond the campaign, it wasn't my kind of RTS but I can't disagree with the fact that it's perfectly balanced etc.
The only Blizzard games I played for a long time are Diablo 1 and Warcraft 2.
As for C&C, I like the old games, but after RE2 it all went to the gakker. And come on, even the old Westwood guys tried to imitate Starcraft with the 3 races with different styles in Universe at war. (who's the fanboy now eh?)
Obvious blizzard hater is obvious.
