I'm not a fan of the wording of this ability, "All Tyranid units within 6" of a Hive Tyrant with the Old Adversary upgrade benefit from..."

This implies to me that it is possible to have a unit out in front of your Tyrant at the start of the assualt phase who are within 6" and then assault out of the 6" bubble. Since the unit is no longer within 6", would they lose the benefit instantly before resolving combat?

Thats correct. I dont see them problem. If they are too far away the tyrant cant direct the actions of the lesser tyranid creatures and would not benefit from the weight of his psychic experience.

If we were to play each other in a tournament, not only would I table you, I would murder you, your family, every woman you ever loved and burn down your house. I mean, what's the point in winning if you allow people that don't take the game seriously to live?

Yeah that seems to be the RAW implication. I just started playing my nids again and in my local group there's hardly anyone else who plays them. When I brought this up I got blank stares >< This seems like one of those abilities you really have to watch your opponent on, as they could easily mess up who gets the bonus either accidentally or "accidentally".

It seems to me it would be simpler to play the effect as if it read "All Tyranid units that start the [turn/phase] within 6" of a Hive Tyrant..." just to keep it simple.

I'm wondering if anyone is playing it this way?

No, because that's not what the very clear rules say.

I would imagine that since the rule's given bonus only applies in close combat that you would check that you were within range after you'd made your assults.

So if your assult took you out of range of the Tyrant you would no longer recive the bonus.

It's actually easier to measure at the time, than to attempt to remember which units were in range at the start of the phase.

It is certainly worth making markers for powers that have a duration and need to be remembered.
