Hmm, Chaos Dreads of old look sort of Tyranidyyyish...
|
This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

In the first league I ever played in, starting May 1999, a chaos player I faced had that dread in his army. It's crazy looking. A bunch of the old RT-era Chaos has weird organic shapes/touches.

Which, as termies were tactical dreadnoughts instead of dreadnoughts, fits. I always thought their size fit well. I am not a fan of most of the GW 40K washing machine dreads.

Hell, I still use two of my old school SM dreads in my army.
They still have their L arm DCCW with twin bolters (counts as stormbolter), but have been modified to take a standard dread R arm weapon.
They are my MOX units (Marine Offensive eXoarmour). Designed for fighting in built-up/enclosed areas (tunnel fighting) but known unto their brothers as "sh!tkicker 1 and 2").

Ah, the Furry Class Dreadnought, thouse were the days.
Question, dose anyone know the callsighns & associated weapons packages of all the old Dreads, I know Chuck was 4 Boltguns and 2 DCCW, Fury was 1 LC & 1 DCCW and Eddy was 1 ML & 1 DCCW, did they have one for the other weapons packages (MM, Assault Cannon, Auto Cannon, etc.)

Assault cannons did not exist when these dreads came out. They only came out around the time of Spacehulk 1.0 (with the first metal terminator box).
If a dread had a weapons fit that wasn't the same as Eddy, Fury or Chuck (Deredeo, Furibundus or Contemptor), you gave it your own name and type.
Dreads had two lengths of legs, too. Long and stumpy.
Long legs make the height of these ones the same height as the walking outhouse.

I really want one of the Chaos Dreadnoughts. Really bad.
Though I'm sure that the Dreadnoughts with the tall legs are fairly tall and you can get away with having one. The ones with short legs would just be abusive, I think.

In regards to the image below, I have 2 of the Tzeetch and 2 of the Nurgle marines. They came in pairs (per blister) for about $8 I think (back in the day). They look awesome and would love to paint them (still not done so they prob never will be). Choas had a more alien feel back then. I have another old school Slaanish Marine who has tanticles coming out of his arm, but it actually looks like really long, thick under-arm hair!!
