I fondly remember my old carnifex, where bio-plasma was a heavy flamer, and you only had a 5+ invulnerable

-Any terrain containing Sly Marbo is dangerous terrain.
-Sly Marbo once played an objective mission just to see what it was like to not meet every victory condition on his own.
-Sly Marbo bought a third edition rulebook just to play meat grinder as the attacker.
-Marbo doesn't need an Eldar farseer as an ally; his enemies are already doomed
-Sly Marbo was originally armed with a power weapon, but he dropped it while assaulting a space marine command squad just so his enemies could feel pain
-Sly Marbo still attacks the front armor value in assault, for pity's sake.

I still have 3 of the 2nd ed Carnifexes.
I use them still in my current Nid army as a Brood of CC Carnis.
I use the newer models for the ranged ones.
My brood of CC Warriors are the 2nd ed, as well as my CC Hive Tyrant.

Love em, always will.

Most of the old dread models just suck balls. The stuff they are putting out today is millions of years better. The Eldar Wraithlord still looks decent, as does the old Carnifex, but the rest are just terrible, IMO.

@Reece: I wouldn't be adverse to swapping for new, smaller heads on the Wraithlords to update them for 6E.

Heck, I could use a whole set of 6...

But yours need round bases... square is all wrong.

Thanks, Panic. They're build, painted, and based, so they're keepers.

WRT the old-skool 40mm square bases, they are properly mounted upon the bases with which they were supplied.

Just like the other large models pictured at the top of the page.

I like the old dreads much better. The design made much more sense to me. The new ones from Forgeworld the helmets are too big... It's still a Space Marine inside. Oh well.

Honestly, I always thought that the whole method of surgically implanting the dreadnought pilot was much more gruesome when it was obvious there wasn't enough room for very much of the pilot's "extra" parts. Especially the part where it's explained as necessary because of the unreliability of Imperial mind link technology.

Like JHDD said, older large models came with square bases. My buddy's 2E Hive Tyrant came with a 40mm Square. That thing looks (IMHO) way better than the new Tyrants. If only it were about 3 or 4 inches taller, we'd be in business.

EBay, if you're lucky.

They aren't "Pre-Heresy" though. Just RT-Era. Pre-Heresy dreads look nearly identical to current ones. Chaos Dreadnaughts of the original Traitor Legions are Pre-Heresy, and they look almost alike.

Actually they are Mk4s, which are post heresy or possibly heresy era. Pre heresy are MK1s and look like this:

http://www.underthecouch.net/albums/album103/600px_Pre_Heresy_Dreadnought.jpg

Which is very similar to the old RT dreads (in fact most pre-heresy models are based on the RT models). I want to see what Mk2 and Mk3 look like

Looks more like a normal dread with RT arms on it. IMHO, doesn't really look much like the RT dreads though.

According to the artwork we've seen, Pre-Heresy Dreads don't look much like 'current' ones at all!

Ugh. I remember those days. When you had a card with your vehicle stats out of the Dark Millenium box. Not the walking box we know today, but I had to deal with many of those, and the big egg-head carnifex guys later ripped off by starcraft, when a carnifex was meant to be a CC monster, not a fire platform. I wish I still had those figs. Thanks for the (un)happy memories.

Eldar dread? that was before they became MCs and actually worked a lot better. I was a big fan of peanuthead.

The orky one isn't really too far off. I had a couple of those long ago and if I could dig them up they could still passably serve. The Marine and Chaos ones though... oh dear oh dear.... Whats with the giant phallic bulge?

Dreads definitely got better with age.
