just wondering what the general rules are for fielding super hev vehicles, ie baneblades, stompas etc in a normal game (not apocalypse) ? Also, do the imperial armor books still have current edition playablility?

It boils down to ask your opponent. There are no rules besides the ones in the IA books, and some people will play with them and others won't.

There are no general rules for using super heavies in a normal game of 40k.

Regarding IA, the rulebook tells you to pick an army from a codex. IA is not a codex.

Both things needs your opponents express permission.

By definition, a game involving superheavies is not 'normal'.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Kilkrazy is right and also, if you are not playing apocalypse, you can't use stuff from the apoc rulebook.

Okay, I've been on a bit of a hiatus 2011-14

Just ask whoever you are playing. Most people will probably say no due to many armies having issues dealing with super heavies at lower point games, but some might say yes.

You could also make variants of the one battle mission which is 1500 tau vs three baneblades. Again you would have to ok this with your opponent.

I allow superheavies. I love getting the bragging rights if you kill them or if you lose it is because you have the unfair appoc unit.

Give that Green Tide Ghazghkull and replacements and then when they die you just send the next 4000 point mob in.

Super heavy vehicles yes.

gargantuan creatures no.

Vehicles are still vehicles, but many gargantuan creatures require many more high Str shots to put down that you can't get in a normal game.

Bio titans are OP. regeneration is dumb.

bio titans are ridiculous, especially with the GC immunity to instant death.

@ Lorne: +1 This is exactly why I would do this. Also because I like the attention this would bring me .

But you had better be ready when I Melta\LC Demo spam you into LAST week. It's important to remember that you are basically resigning your self to an HQ two Troop choices and this SH. That doesn't allow you to shoot at many targets per turn and last I checked close to everything IG have can be a tank killer one way or another.

Oh yeah I forgot about the points cost, oops 2 squads of troops dead the best you can do is tie.

You know I have not had that many issues with bio titans in comparason to a SH

Titan is T8 that is what a S5 shot to wound it
SH is AV14 that is a s8 shot to glance. and then damage and then save the primary weapon.

Sorry as a nid and guard player bio titans go down much easier and they are useless against the other SH's until CC.

i was more thinking of fielding a baneblade or variant in my 2000 ig tank company... so no bio titans or other titans... just the baneblade.

they have 10 wounds.

for every wound the titan has left it may roll a dice to see if it regenrates a lost wound on a 6.

when you are rolling 7-8 die a turn for this, chances are you get at least one back.

20 lascannons in a guard list will take it down in 1 turn. 20 lascannons against a SH = 10 hits ~2 glances ~2 pens = no dead tank.

That's sick. I took a green tide for the first time this weekend (191 boyz!) and loved it. Took an entire turn of 6k points worth of IG shooting, and didn't even kill half of them! Took my entire team to set them up however!

Actually a Hellhammer is only 500pts, so in a 2000pt game you take your reg 1500pt list and add a Hellhammer.

Consdiering the fire power it can put out, and target multiple units a turn, it can more than take out it's points in a single turn, and stick around for more the next turn

On Dakka he was Eldanar. In our area, he was Lee. R.I.P., Lee Guthrie.

My math is off today 24 shots 12 hits 10 wounds no save.

24 shots 12 hit 2 glances 2 pens.

so im guessing then, that general consensus is that its fine as long as opponent agrees? is thier any rule that states i CANT take a baneblade in my army without? or is it simply courtesy to ask before hand?

There is nothing stating you CAN take a baneblade, therefore unless your opponent agrees that you can take it then yuo cannot.

Anything you want to do is fine if your opponent agrees...

That's backwards. In order to take it, you need a rule saying that you can. Not a lack of a rule saying you can't. The rules can't possibly cover all of the things you can't do... they simply tell you what is allowed, and include restrictions on that where absolutely necessary.

Super Heavies require the use of multiple detachments (which are explained on page 87 of the rulebook)... which requires your opponent's permission.

Essentially, any time you want to play anything other than a standard mission with a standard Force Org chart, you'll need to discuss it with your opponent.
